Something to Treasure

Greetings!

Lake City is a friendly little town located in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado.  People who visit Lake City come back, year after year, bringing their family and friends for generations.  Come find out why!  Plan your own "heirloom vacation" to Lake City, and discover why Lake City is Your Cure for the Common Crowd.

Lodging and camping spots tend to fill quickly during July and August, so it's a good idea to make your reservations ahead of time.  Go directly to our Lodging Page, or to our Camping Page.

More Than Just a Drive:  Activities Along the Alpine Loop National Backcountry Byway

This 65-mile loop drive starts and ends in Lake City, and will take you well above timberline, over 12,000 ft passes, through wildflower-filled meadows, and past relics from the mining boom of the late 1800s.  Parts of the Alpine Loop are accessible by 2-wheel drive vehicles, but crossing Engineer and Cinnamon Passes requires a four-wheel drive vehicle.  You can rent your own jeep or ATV, or take a guided tour and let someone else do the driving.

There are plenty of opportunities to leave your vehicle and have even more fun.  Don't forget your camera!  Along the Alpine Loop, you'll find:

Take a Virtual Tour of Lake City

We invite you to check out a feature of our website, a virtual tour of Lake City, courtesy of Google Street View.  Move along Highway 149 and Silver Street, and spin the screen around a full 360 degrees at any point.  If you've never been to Lake City, or if you're looking to visit when you can't be here in person, this is a really cool feature.  Here's the link:  Virtual Tour of Lake City.
