Donations to benefit immigrant services organizations will be accepted at both concerts.
The
traditional mass, sung in Spanish, includes additional English
narration written by Kathy Mollicone telling the story of an immigrant (Lupe) and her family. The
composition is a blending of the classical idiom with Mariachi
tonalities and a poignant libretto to honor the struggle of
undocumented immigrants in the United States.
The mass is dedicated to all immigrants, and to Leroy Kromm and the San Jose Symphonic Choir.
Misa de los Inmigrantes is being made possible by the generosity of the California Arts Council.

Donations Accepted at Concerts |
Both concerts are offered without charge, seeking
donations to benefit immigrant services organizations. Outreach efforts
will include members of the Latino community with help from the Katharine and
George Alexander Community Law Center, whose pro bono work supports immigrant
families and children. Tickets for the
premier concert at Mission Santa Clara must be reserved by calling
408-554-4015.
Donations received at the March
7th concert at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral will support Sacred Heart Community Service's (SHCS) Citizenship Fund, assisting low income immigrant families in becoming US Citizens. This is a
huge honor for which immigrants sacrifice each and every day. With citizenship a deserving resident obtains the opportunity to travel freely, vote in
the democracy they love, apply for government jobs, apply for school loans and
grants, and receive full benefits from Social Security even after years of
paying taxes. (The cost of becoming a citizen was increased 2 years ago from
$450 to $675.) SHCS is currently working with 30 diligent students to prepare
them for the tests. Their only barrier now is the high fee.

Both concerts also feature performances by SCU's Chamber Singers and Concert Choir, directed by Ryan James Brandau. The repertoire includes choral masterworks from the 16th (Byrd and Campion), 19th (Brahms and Arkhangelsky) and 20th centuries. This portion of the concert ends as San José Symphonic Choir joins the others for a massed singing of Homeland, by Gustav Holst, arranged by Z. Randall Stroope.
