A Thanksgiving Holiday Special Concert
|
San Jose Symphonic Choir and Nova Vista Symphony join forces Thanksgiving weekend to present a special concert to the Santa Clara Valley community in celebration of British and American influences in music. The magnificent "Sea Symphony," composed by Ralph Vaughan Williams, will be led by Music Director Leroy Kromm, with featured soloists Aimee Puentes, soprano, and Peter Tuff, baritone.
"...the most beautiful piece of choral music written in the 20th century!" Robert Shaw
This performance of A Sea Symphony on November 28, 2009 at the beautiful St. Joseph's Cathedral in downtown San Jose comes 100 years after its premiere. The composer brings the sea to life in the instruments of the orchestra and the voices of the chorus and soloists, giving us the majesty and grandeur, the mystery and the rhythms of the sea. Vaughan Williams, a British composer, turned to an American poet, Walt Whitman, and Leaves of Grass, for his inspiration.
San Jose Symphonic Choir and Nova Vista Symphony are proud to collaborate for this concert, presented in the heart of San Jose, honoring the memory of all who braved the oceans to begin a new life in America.
