Membership Party Wednesday!

October 19th, 6:00pm - 9:00pm, Full Cycle on Pearl

It's time to party down and elect your BMA board members. We'll drink beer and talk about all the great rides we've done this summer. We'll also have awesome Boulder Mountainbike Alliance gear at the ready so you can show your support around town and on the trail.

We will be serving up Avery beer plus wine and food from several local businesses. Full Cycle will be donating 15% of their sales from the event to BMA.  Thank you Full Cycle!

Just announced: Discounts on membership:

These membership specials are available only at the party, so come on down and join or renew!

Party!

We need your help

Every great BMA party requires some sweat equity from a few dedicated volunteers.  Can you lend a hand?  We need folks for setup and takedown, and to man the membership and merchandise tables for a bit.  Drink a beer while you volunteer!  Email us now!

Tell Council to Make a Downtown Bike Trail a Reality

That's right, the West TSA is over, but council is poised to decide, on October 25th, whether to allow bicycle access on Anemone Hill - a trail system planned west of Settler's Park between Sunshine Canyon Drive and Boulder Canyon. You thought that was over?!? No it ain't! To our pleasant surprise, city council directed staff to hire a third party trail design professional to see if a shared use trail could be built on Anemone Hill. Their answer was unambiguous - yes we can! Then, again to our surprise, the Open Space Board of Trustees overruled staff and voted 4 to 1 that bikes should be allowed on Anemone Hill as well. Now council gets to decide. We are five votes away from reasonable and responsible trail access for bikes from downtown Boulder!!!

Imagine riding from your house or from work downtown or with your kid to a 4-5 mile loop trail starting at Settler's Park? No more driving to get to a trail! Actual single track though a forest just above Boulder and Sunshine Canyons! Heck yeah! This would be so super cool, the BMA advocacy team is beside ourselves! We need you at the Boulder city council meeting on Tuesday 10/25 in council chambers at Broadway and Canyon. More info to come soon. In the mean time, if you are curious, read up by following the links below.

Smart Trails App Still Alive!

The universe didn't cooperate and the SmartTrail app team was unsuccessful in winning the GOOD grant for $1500.  The Children's Peace Garden (awesome idea as well!) beat us out.  Last week we asked for your vote, and now we're shamelessly asking for some dough.  While Boulder's youngins certainly deserve that peace garden, we big kids with bikes need the SmartTrail mobile app even more.  The app is a must have mtb accessory - it showcases Boulder County trails, allows for real-time trail condition updates while streaming BMA's activities and bike-related tweets.   We're almost there, but need to raise funds to cover the cost of our anticipated January 2012 launch.  A test drive of the Android beta version or a perusal of the Daily Camera's SmartTrail article will surely inspire you to contribute to this mountainbike community cause.  The iPhone version will be ready for a spin shortly.

We're shooting to raise $1500 and appreciate anything you can shell out. To donate click here.

Thanks from the BMA SmartTrail mobile app team!

Put Up or Shut Up... Have Your Voice Heard By Voting TODAY

Boulder Voters: Elected officials respond to people that vote. That's the way it works. It takes 5 minutes of your time and will affect the riding that is available to you for many years to come. But BMA looks for more than just people that will do our bidding - it doesn't work that way in local politics. We look for people that are willing to engage us on the issues we care about - having a place to ride close to home, managing our open space lands for the protection of nature AND the enjoyment of generations to come.

We have made tremendous progress for mountain biking access and good public lands management in the last 10 years. And things are only getting better. But we can only continue to change things for the better if the people in power listen with an open mind; if they see the value that mountain bikers bring to the broader Boulder community; if they see us for the children, parents, and grandparents that we are. BMA has talked with most of the serious contenders for city council. There are many good ones to choose among. But if you are looking for someone with an open mind on open space issues and who accept mountain bikers as the productive citizens that we have proven ourselves to be, then the BMA advocacy team recommends that you vote for the following candidates:

It's time to deliver for the people who can support us as a productive citizen community who cares deeply about our public lands.

Help! Beer!

Have you heard the cowbells yet? The Boulder Cup hosted by DBC Events is going to hit Valmont Park October 30th.  This will be a huge UCI race, and we've got a huge fundraising opportunity.

We are hosting the Beer Garden with the City of Boulder & need volunteers to man the beer garden. (Yes you can drink beer at the same time!) Proceeds from the beer garden will benefit Valmont Bike Park!

We've heard from a ton of awesome folks already, but can still use some more volunteers. Hit reply and let us know how you'd like to help!
