 Donor Updates and Park News

All Donors Please Read This in its Entirety



Spring is here and the Valmont Bike Park opening is around the corner. The Parks Department and contractors have been hard at work since last year moving dirt, sculptingtrails and installing world-class park amenities and infrastructure. We encourage you to ride up Airport Road and peer into the site (please do not enter) to see all that is underway, it is truly awe inspiring as the landscape has been transformed into ridingutopia.

Parks is working towards an opening date, and should announce this very soon. We are providing regular updates on the BMA website and Facebook page. It is a HUGE construction project complete with road improvements, wildlife and historic preservation concerns, parking, restrooms, public art, risk management guidelines, and stringent quality standards. Boulder is setting the gold standard for bike parks. Valmont is the only multi-discipline urban park that is open and free to the public of its size.

When BMA and Parks set out to fund raise, we set a lofty goal of $500,000 to augment the city allocated funds. Mission accomplished! BMA and the cycling community raised the money and the park would not have come to fruition as it stands without your support. Funds were used to add more trails and unique features, and also supply initial maintenance equipment to care for the park.

We originally wanted to place donor engravings on site, but maintenance issues and cost concerns about replacing stolen or damaged pieces proved an ongoing issue (we wish vandalism was not a reality). The wall needed to mount the engravings, was estimated at $30,000-$35,000, and would have come at the expense of the trails and ridable features. In discussions with many donors, there was consensus during the first phase of the project was to put the money towards the park, and not towards donor recognition. Additional items were also postponed including the three bridge crossings, cobblestone hillclimb and bike wash. In lieu of the donor engravings, we will have signage (see example above) mounted in the events plaza thanking all donors for their contribution to the park, and not the "text" we entered. We sincerely apologize for the last minute change, but the budget is stretched. We hope you will agree with us that it is the best use of your money, as we truly have the cycling communities best interests at heart.

In light of this, we are offering donation refunds if this is a concern for you or your family. If you would like a refund, please send an email to valmont@bouldermountainbike.org and we will issue a check in 4-6 weeks and remove your name. Please do this by Friday March 18th, after this the balance of the money will be transferred into the Park and cannot be reversed.

Please see the list below to confirm your name or business is family name is correct. For all the names to fit, we must limit the text to 30 lines including spaces. If you cannot fit all your family members in this space, please use "Jones Family" or abbreviate. If your information is incorrect, please send an email to valmont@bouldermountainbike.org stating:

"Please replace (insert incorrect name) with (insert correct name) for the Valmont Bike Park donor recognition" Maximum 30 spaces. 


Please complete this by Friday March 18th, and we will honor your requests. After this, the text will be sent to the fabricator and any changes will not be possible.
