Trail Mix: Fun Rides for Everyone
August 28, 2010, 9:00 am - Noon

Beat the August heat and join BMA up in Nederland for Co-Ed FUN ride at the West Magnolia and Dots trail systems.  This is not a race!  Instead, it's a morning of riding with your friends, your sweetheart, your kids, and other like-minded mountain bikers.  Whatever your level, we will have a ride geared for you, so you can take it nice and mellow or hammer with the big boyz (and big gurlz!).  We will divvy up into beginner, intermediate and advanced groups, each heading out with leaders and sweepers to show you the way.  A kid's ride will be held from 10:00 to noon.

The ride will be followed by a picnic or BBQ lunch, provided courtesy of the Boulder Mountain Bike Alliance.

Riders will meet at the main West Magnolia Trail Head on Peak-to-Peak Hwy, just south of the intersection with Magnolia Road. Participants for adult rides should arrive no later than 8:45 am and be ready to ride at 9:00 am.  Participants for the kid's ride should arrive no later than 9:45 and be ready to ride at 10:00. Each small group will have a Ride Leader and a Ride Sweeper, so no one will get lost.   After the ride, we will all reconvene at the trailhead for lunch and socializing.

The ride is open to 60 participants, so preregistration is required.  Please send any questions to
bmagirls.rideleader@gmail.com

Tell OSMP About Springbrook

A couple of minutes of your time today could ensure your access to this trail for years to come.  OSMP wants to hear from you by submitting your comments:

  • Have you experienced a negative experience on the Springbrook trail?
  • What was the nature of the negative experience?
  • Do you think action needs to be taken?
  • What is your reaction to members of the trail using public that want to have a "bike free" experience on the trail?

Submit your comments here by Friday. We ask that you give them what they are asking for by considering the questions we have posed above.

Sufferfest 2010!
September 18th, 2010

SufferFest is a fully supported ride and campout for BMA members. The route challenges riders on sweet single-track and rough terrain. Starting in Nederland, riders have the choice of a long route or an even longer route that eventually ends at Beaver Reservoir. As a point to point, the route is about 33 miles. For those feeling strong and mighty, we encourage you to continue past base camp and complete the loop around the Middle St. Vrain for a total of 44.5 miles. Check out the map: SufferFest 2010 Route

After the ride, we will be celebrating with tasty food and cold beverages provided by Oskar Blues and camping under the stars. Expect a roaring campfire, the air filled with bike stories, and good times with your friends.

Did we mention it is FREE for members? Participation is limited, so don't drag your feet too long! Sign up or renew your membership here, and then click over here to sign up for the ride.

Wondering why we do this? Well, this is BMA's way of thanking all the members for a great year of trail stewardship, bike patrol, and trail building. Without you, nothing would get done around here!

St. Vrain Trail Completed!

The successful completion of a joint July 31/August 1 trail project by BMA & WRV (Wildlands Restoration Volunteers) means the South St Vrain Trail east from Brainard Lake is now open to mountain bikes. Several years of planning and multi-day projects in 2009 and 2010 finally completed a reroute of the old South St. Vrain Trail. The reroute moves the trail out of the wilderness, resulting in the opening of the trail to mountain bikes. The new trail alignment offers a greatly improved experience for all users, some special features for experts, and allows the restoration of environmental impacts from the previous trail. BMA thanks WRV and the USDA Forest Service for their support and contributions to this accomplishment!

Volunteer for Sufferfest!

As with every great event, volunteers make it happen. SufferFest needs you to donate some time and energy to support the riders and make sure everything goes as smooth as butter. We have over 20 volunteer positions that need to be filled between Friday the 17th and Sunday the 18th. Don't worry, there will be time to volunteer and go for a ride before dinner is served!

Take your pick from the following job descriptions:

  • Course Markers - Friday the 17th. There course needs to be marked. We need help with several sections. Ride part of the course and help out!
  • Registration - Ride Day. Just need a couple of morning people with smiles on their faces to welcome riders and hand out info from 7am to 9am at Nederland High School
  • Aid Stations - Ride Day. There are three aid stations that need to be supported by 2 or 3 people. It will be your duty to feed, hydrate, and cheer on the riders.
  • Course Marshals - Ride day. There is a spot waiting for you in the town of Eldora, the start of the Sourdough at Rainbow Lakes Road, and at Camp Dick. Expect to be at site for 2 to 4 hours.
  • Drivers - Ride Day. We need two drivers on Saturday. One to pick up a van in Boulder and shuttle riders back and forth. Another will drive the gear from the staging area to camp. Both will act as aid station support and sag wagons. At the end of the day, riders who are not camping will need a lift back to Nederland.
  • Drivers - Sunday the 19th. It will be time to take the sore and happy riders without transportation back to Nederland.
  • Sweeps - Ride Day. Two sweeps to ride start to finish and make sure everyone makes it in ok. Another two riders will be sent out from Aid Station 3 midday to sweep the loop around the Middle St. Vrain. Other duties will include, taking down signage and helping riders with bike repairs.
  • Medical Support - Ride Day. We need volunteers trained in the Art of First Aid to assistant riders in need.
  • Can't donate time? There are still a few supplies that we are looking for if you have them to donate.
      • High powered 2-way radios.
      • Firewood
      • Large water cooler
      • Generator for camp
