Valmont Update

The Valmont Bike Park is fast becoming a reality, the crews from J2 construction and Alpine Bike Parks are moving fast.  If you have been by the site, they are importing dirt from the construction site at 30th and Walnut.  This dirt is being screened to remove the rocks to create the single track and other earthen features.

Alpine Bike Parks has crews in from both east and west coasts, and their experience shows.  The dirt jumps and slopestyle are taking shape, and some of the single track is cut in.  The park is looking great, and unfolding before our eyes.  Please ride by the park (but do not enter) and see the progress, it is the stuff we have been dreaming about, right in our own backyard.  Stay Tuned.  Huge Props to the Boulder Parks Department for making this happen.

Check out the pictures on our Facebook page to see how it looked during our tour last week.

Trail Mix July

We're planning another fun social coed ride for July. The foundation for the ride has been laid out, but we could use someone to tie it together and help the day of. Is this something you could do? We'd love to hear from you! Click reply and we'lll be in touch.

Sufferfest

Plan on it! It could be 90 degrees, it could be snowing, but it will certainly be fun. September 18th! Mark your calendar and stay tuned for more details!

NTD Recap!/Next Trail Work Day

National Trails Day was ealy this month, and we were out building new trails at the Betasso/Benjamin property. Thank you to all the volunteers and sponsors who came out for a great cause.

Ever wonder what its like to do trail work? Here's a write up that gets it right: Trailwork is good dirty fun. Consider coming out for our next trail day, scheduled for the weekend of July 31st/August 1st, on the South St. Vrain trail.
Volunteer of the Month

This is Duncan Wheeler. He does great work for BMA!

1. What's the best thing about the volunteer work you do for BMA?

Getting to help get more trail on the ground, through either the training of new crew leaders, helping to layout new trail, or physically building new trails.

2. How long have you done volunteer work?

I think I've been volunteering with BMA for just over 5 years now.

3. What is your favorite type of trail work?

I enjoying working with professional trail builders to learn tricks of the trade on trail design and construction. I also prefer to incorparate the natural features of an area into the trail to enhance the ride, which around here usually means a lot of rock work. Which is like playing Tetris with the rocks.

4. Describe your most recent crash.

I think it would have to be this winter on my snowboard while hanging out with my Eldora Trek kids trying to one up each other on a log slide. They are almost 30 years younger and fearless, but since I'm their coach I can't let them best me.

5. What's your favorite post ride beverage?

What do you mean post ride beverage? The best rides have a bar in the middle of them for mid ride refreshments and snacking pleasure, with said bar sporting the slogan "It's all down hill from here" on the menu.

(Duncan also offered a quote from Dennis Hopper's character in Blue Velvet about beer. Can't reprint it here, but I'm sure you could find it on the interwebs if you're curious).

Thank You!
