BMA Movie Night

April 28th 7pm

Follow Me is a new mountain bike movie from the crew who brought you the Collective, Roam and Seasons. The first release from the crew's new company Anthill Films, Follow Me takes the viewer inside the action, capturing the nique perspectives and HD imagery the crew is famous for.

A modern portrait of mountain bike lifestyle, Follow Me gets back to basics and reminds us why we all love to ride bikes. Breaking from the traditional single rider format, Follow Me is based on the idea that "no one rides alone"; mixing and matching the world's best downhillers, freeriders and slopestylers in some of the best places to ride on the planet. Think back-yard sessions, ripping local trails, training bike parks, epic road trips and heli drops. Follow Me is all about good times, pushing limits with your friends, crazy adventures and most importantly having fun your bike.

Announcing the Matthew Sawyer Youth Cycling Scholarship Program

The cycling community in Boulder lost a friend and avid supporter of all things cycling when Matthew Sawyer passed away on March 2, 2009.
Matthews's parents asked that any donations the community wanted to make be directed to the Boulder Mountainbike Alliance and we have worked to establish a youth cycling scholarship program in his name.

The Boulder Mountainbike Alliance (BMA) is asking students age 7 to 14 this question: If you were a Boulder Mountain Bike Ambassador for a Day, how would you describe mountain biking to someone who's never been riding before? Include why you love to mountain bike, what are the benefits to being a mountain biker in Boulder and send us a picture of you with your bike.

  • First Prize for students 7 to 10 years old is a $300 scholarship to attend a Junior Ride Day Camp donated by Singletrack Mountain Bike Adventures (SMBA) valued at $300.00; PLUS a free 1-year family membership to Boulder Mountainbike Alliance.
  • First Prize for students 11 to 14 years old is a private bike skills clinic for the essay winner and up to five friends or family members donated by Boulder Junior Cycling valued at $300.00; PLUS a free 1-year family membership to Boulder Mountainbike Alliance.
  • There will be a Runner-up prize for each age group 7 to 10 and 11 to 14, each win a free 1-year family membership to Boulder Mountainbike Alliance.
The link for more information will be:  http://bma-mtb.org/events/bma_youth_scholarship.php  Just need to finish building the web page form submission page.  Should add the links for SMBA and Boulder Junior Cycling.
Trails are Dry... For Now

What a winter... We've been spoiled over the last decade of mild winters that kept us on relatively dry and ridable trails. But from the second week of December till late March, our trails have been vulnerable to serious damage.

We applaud BCPOS for taking the unprecedented actions of closing some of our most popular trails, and we applaud YOU for taking heed of those closures.  Our restraint has Picture Rock and Wild Turkey in good to excellent condition and it would not have happened without your help.

The South Boulder Trails didn't fare as well.  The good news is that OSMP is developing a monitoring and reporting system that recruits the public to provide trail conditions.  A hotline will be provided to alert OSMP staff to problems on the trail.  More Muddy Trails meters will be built and distributed throughout the system.  The web page is still under development, but check it out...

And we aren't out of the woods yet; the long range forecast calls for a very wet spring.

Several Bike Patrollers have reported a significant uptick in users not riding or walking through the mud, and trails are widening as a result.  If we want singletrack, we have to stay in the tread.  It's almost like how drivers act after the first snow of the season, everybody loses their minds and forgets how to act.  Let's get over it and KEEP THE SINGLETRACK SINGLE.

Build Trail at Betasso!
May 1st

BCPOS needs help.  Please come out and help construct new multi-use singletrack at Betasso Preserve on May 1.  Celebrate spring and help construct the new Benjamin Trail, a multi-use path that will eventually connect to
the existing loop trail at Betasso Preserve. Volunteer trail-builders will use hand tools to build new trail
through forest groves and open meadows while enjoying spectacular views and freshmountain air. Due to steep
and rugged backcountry terrain, this project will be physically strenuous and will include at least three
miles of hiking. This project will run from 8:30am- 2:00pm. Minimum age is 14 with adult supervision. To
register please email WildWorkVolunteers@BoulderCounty.org or call 303-678-6216 by April 28. Please be sure to let them know you are a BMA recruit.

Colorado Bike Club Summit

Members of BMA's Advocacy Team made the trip to Salida on April 2, 3 and 4 to meet with representatives of every other mountain bike club in Colorado. The goal was to share experiences, ideas, and issues of common interest that impact us all.  As one might guess, Each club is in their own spot developmentally. Some, like Team Evergreen, put on events like nobody else.  Clubs like COPMOBA have a rich legacy in trail development and maintenance.  One thing was common among all of us; we could all benefit from taking the blinders off and communicate with each other better.

Representatives from the USFS, BLM, and Colorado State Parks were in the room to talk about their organizations and we an interact with them better.  The Hidden Gems Wilderness proposal was a hot topic as well.

It is our hope that this collaboration continues and we evolve into an effective statewide force to confront issues that affect us all and make us all better volunteer organizations.

Together, we are stonger!
