2010 Banquet Announcement!

February 5th, 7pm

We've been hard at work to make this years banquet another success. We've kept all the great stuff and tweaked some other things in an effort to make this year's banquet fresh and fun. Whether you've been around for all of the sellouts, or whether this will be your first, we're working to make this the best.

Here's the attendance scoop:

  • Regular tickets like previous years are available: $75
  • VIP Tickets: $150
  • Buy a table! Tickets for 10 of your favorite mountain bikers: $712.50

All the food and timing details are on our website, and if you're ready to buy a ticket for yourself and a friend skip ahead.

We're also looking for a few key sponsors this year. If your business would like special recognition at this year's banquet, be in touch and we'll get you more details.

Want to volunteer? Yep! We can always use some help with that too!

Trail Conditions

You've heard it from us before, but some folks still need a reminder: Tread lightly, and Leave no Trace especially when the weather report says we're entering another freeze/thaw cycle. Oh and  Remember the Rules of the Trail too!

BMA Needs Your Help NOW!!

You're not the only person who's thought it - BMA needs a new website, with a fresh look and new features.  A new website that will build the Boulder mountain bike community through active and dynamic content, increased social networking, and cool stuff Boulder mountain bikers really want and need.

Thanks to hard work by a few dedicated BMA volunteers, we've got that new website partly done.  To drive the project to completion in the next 2 months, BMA seeks developers experienced in Drupal, SQL databases, CSS and web development in general. If you love mountain biking and want to help BMA's web presence (and wouldn't mind a little extra cash), contact Andria at
boulderfuzz@gmail.com for more information.
BMA & BCPOS Team Up: Picture Rock Table

pr 2

I hope every time you ride Heil Valley Ranch's Picture Rock Trail you get a sense of pride and satisfaction.  It was a product of our collective efforts through every step of the process, beginning with the Wild Turkey Trail through to the ongoing fine tuning of Picture Rock that created this result.  Those of you who worked on the trail, spoke at hearings, sent emails, rode bike patrol and paid your dues to BMA, Boulder County has a jewel that will last for generations thanks to you.  And it's definitely worth mentioning that we now have a Boulder County Trail Crew that really understands what a sustainable and fun trail means from a design and construction perspective.  We have truly come a very long way.

We thought it appropriate to do something that acknowledges this collaboration.  Over the last year BMA worked with BCPOS to create a reminder of this success for those that pass by on the trail.  We wanted to create something that adds to the user experience and fits with the landscape.  We think we have done just that by creating a picnic table about two miles south of the Red Gulch trailhead.  What's unique about this piece is the tabletop, which is made of actual picture rock.  As you can see in the pictures, the tabletop looks like a cross section of almost sedimentary layers.... but it isn't.  This is acually a result of sedimentary layers of sandstone fracturing and allowing mineral laden water to pool inside the layers, creating an almost prismatic effect on the rock.  These factured layers occur in only the uppermost layers of a sandstone outcropping/quarry, and were very popular in the early part of the 20th century.  Now that the quarries are 70+ years old, finding picture rock in Boulder County is quite rare.

So the next time you are riding Picture Rock, take a break at the picnic table to enjoy the view and thank your lucky stars we live here.  And don't forget to share this story with those that you are riding with!

Benefit for Local Rider on the Mend

Kirk Williams suffered a major spinal cord injury at Hall Ranch recently. He's made progress but, unfortunately, has not recovered from his fall and his insurance isn't covering it all.

On January 20, 2010 at 7:00p.m. at Hapa Sushi on Pearl Street in Boulder, friends of Kirk, Full Cycle, and Hapa Sushi will be hosting a fundraiser in honor of Kirk.

You can also check his progress on his blog
here, and watch Full Cycle's website for updates.
