West TSA: SHOW UP September 15

Ever wanted to ride from your front door to a trail? After 25 years of being banned from open space west of the city, we finally have our chance. More details to come, but the basics are these:

- BMA needs your help on September 15th, 6-9pm at the East Boulder Community Center. Put it on your calendar!
- We need ONLY ONE evening of your time to set the stage for a reasonable community discussion about bike access.
- We are talking about potential bike access to the open space south of Linden, north of Eldorado Springs Drive, and west of Broadway.
- We are not asking for the moon - we are asking for reasonable and responsible access. For more details on what BMA thinks is reasonable bike access in this area, take a look at our position statement.- After years of controlling the planning process, the Open Space and Mountain Parks Department has decided to use a "community based" approach - that's why we need you - you are the community.

If you are interested in helping represent mountain bikes or in helping to get open minded community members selected to represent other important interests, such as the environment, cultural resources, and adjacent neighborhoods, send Kevin Knight an email, and let him know you are interested. We have less than six weeks to ensure a positive outcome. Give the Boulder Mountainbike Alliance one evening of your time to bring mountain biking back into the mix of appropriate uses for our open space lands.

Wanted: SufferFest Volunteers

SufferFest needs you!  If you don't feel up for the ride but still want to be part of SufferFest, then volunteer! We need folks to man the aid stations, collect registration forms at ride start, check riders back in at ride end, drive the gear shuttles, serve dinner or breakfast at camp, stock the bonfire, etc. - a little bit of everything. Most of these tasks will only require a few hours, leaving you lots of time for your own ride on Saturday.  We also need a few select, dedicated individuals to either preride and flag the course on
Friday, September 11th.  If any of these tasks interest you, contact Andria.

Sufferfest is Filling

Last Day to register for Sufferfest is Tuesday September 8th. We're ahead of pace for riders from last year, so get over to the website and register. Then get out and ride your bike, it's less than 2 weeks away! September 12th is coming up fast!

Picture Rock Parking Lot Closing

Open space is will begin to construct the new parking lot for the Picture Rock Trail September 11th. While under construction, the parking lot on Red Gulch Road will be closed. Plan to park elsewhere, and ride in to Picture Rock. The new lot should open in about 3 months.

West Mag Trail Crew Needed

Work continues on the Root Canal Reroute September 6th.  Come join the advanced crew to build some of the most interesting and challenging trail features we've ever done.  Take a look at what has been built so far! Amazing! Contact Duncan Wheeler to sign up!

Trail Construction at Betasso
October 17

In 2008, Boulder County purchased the 391-acre Benjamin property, which is adjacent to Betasso Preserve and just six miles from Boulder.  This land provides great homes for deer, mountain lions, and wildflowers, and will also extend the multi-use trail system.  Unfortunately, the property already has four miles of unsustainable social trails crisscrossing closed areas, some of which are very steep and highly eroded.  Sixty volunteers are needed to construct new singletrack trail, and another 80 volunteers are needed to help all day to close and restore the old social trails.  Minimum age is 16 with adult supervision.  Please follow directions below to register.

Pick one:

To volunteer to build new trail (half-day project), email WildWorkVolunteers@BoulderCounty.org or call 303-678-6193.

To volunteer to restore unstable social trails (all-day project), contact Wildlands Restoration Volunteers at 303-543-1411 or visit www.wlrv.org.

Wanted: BMA Banquet Volunteers

This will be our 5th annual winter banquet and if you have been to any of the previous events you know what an amazing event it has been.  Well, that great event does not happen without volunteers like you!  Whether you can spare a few hours before the event helping get things organized or whether you're willing to spare a few hours during of the event, let Gary know at bma.memberships@midairdesign.com.  I promise there is a job for everyone who wants one.

9th Annual Trash Bash

The 9th Annual Trash Bash is going on September 9th. The Flatirons Climbing Council is hosting this event to clean up Flagstaff. Check out all the details here.

Thank You!
