Boulder to Lyons Regional Trail
Public Meeting - Time to SHOW UP
Tuesday, June 23, Boulder County Fairgrounds, 9595 Nelson Road, Barn A

Boulder to Lyons on non-motorized dirt; that's what we are taling about.  If you care about this regional trail, it's time to make your wishes known in lage numbers.  Unfortunately, the NIMBYs are making quite a bit of noise about this project, and, as well all know too well, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

This project has been almost two decades in coming; NOW is the time to support this project towards completion.

National Trails Day - Another Big Success

138 came out to work on the Wapiti Trail at Heil Valley Ranch.

Thanks to Boulder County Parks and Open Space, REI, the Boudler County Horse Association, GoLite, and especially Oskar Blues for another fantastic event!

St. Vrain Trail Reroute 1 & 2
July 11 & 12, 8AM

This is a two-day weekend project. A 2/3 mile section of the South St. Vrain Trail runs through an edge of the Indian Peaks Wilderness. Since mountain bikes are not allowed in the wilderness area this section prevents riders from accessing either the St. Vrain Trail or connecting to the Waldrop Trail from Brainard Lake. The trail is also eroding badly.

BMA is partnering with the Wildland Restoration Volunteers (WRV) to reroute the trail out of the wildness. We will create a more sustainable trail, stopping erosion into the creek, and upgrade the trail for mountainbike and other users.
This will be a two year project. This weekend we'll complete about half of the total work and provide a connection from the St. Vrain Trail to the Waldrop Trail. In 2010 we'll complete the remaining half of the reroute and open the connection to the eastern St. Vrain Trail.

Click here to volunteer to work for Saturday, or click here for Sunday, or sign up for both days. Volunteers may camp on the edge of a beautiful meadow near the project site.

Valmont Bike Park Update

The Valmont Bike Park is coming!  The final plans were approved by the City's Planning Board on June 6th.  This was a large hurdle to clear.  The Bike Park must work seamlessly with the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan, and the large scope of the project triggered a "Site Review".

Parks can now focus on the construction phase of the park, now that this phase is complete.  Although it seems like an eternity, the plans are unlike anything ever built, with a myriad of issues.  Between the trails (yeah!), pump tracks, dirtjumps, start/finish area, tot lot, restroom building, plaza, ditches, historic farmhouse, prairie dogs, transportation path, landscaping (400 new trees), parking lot, the list goes on and on.  In city terms, this project is moving at light speed.  BMA's efforts in terms of both excitement, fundraising, and community outreach have put this on the fast track (relatively speaking).  Without your involvement, this would still years away.  The construction phase will go much faster than the planning stage, so don't fret!!

We hope to have a groundbreaking date soon, and will be sending updates out as soon as they are available, stay tuned.
The BMA Girls Ride presents...
Hall Ranch Skills Session!

Hey, hey, hey ladies!  Have you ever asked someone how to ride an obstacle, only to be told, "It's easy, just ride it really fast!"  As you probably found out sometime between soaring through the air and smacking into the ground, there is a lot more to mountain biking than just going fast.  Thursday, June 25th is your chance to learn riding tricks, tips, and shortcuts from other women.  ALL skill levels are welcome!  Click here for more information!
