National Trails Day - Heil Ranch Saturday June 6th
Food & Drinks From Oskar Blues!

After the incredible success we have had at Heil with the Wild Turkey and Picture Rock trails, BCPOS and BMA are looking at the rest of Heil Valley Ranch.  We want to bring the old trail up to the standards of the new trails.  Long, straight runs are no longer the way to go in trail building.  Grade dips and contouring ensure a more sustainable trail system and a more enjoyable ride.

That said, the trails on the front side need a face lift.  Poor design and construction methods, along with years of multi-use has resulted in a gravelly, loose trail. We know how to fix it.  Come out on National Trails Day and help us put the shine on the front side to make the WHOLE of Heil Valley Ranch as enjoyable as Picture Rock and Wild Turkey.

This is more challenging than putting in new trail because we have to build a trail within a trail, bringing in the old trail and putting in the contours, grades and water diversion structures, thus reshaping the trail tread.  We broke ground on this project May 09 - if you've been out there, you've probably noticed that the ride near the Pondo/Wild Turkey Junction is a bit more stable and a lot more fun.

Our friends from Oskar Blues will be there to make sure volunteers don't go hungry or dehydrate!

Lyons Fat Tire Festival
May 29th - 31st

Did you miss the first eight editions? Don't miss this one!

The Lyons Fat Tire Fest has been growing for nearly a decade, and is pairing up with BMA this year for a weekend filled with riding and parties and fundraisers. Mark your calendars for the last weekend in May for bike polo, big rides, a poker run, and of course a  big party @ the Oskar's Party Barn. Saturday's rides require preregistration, with each ride capping at 20 riders. Don't miss out, email Dave today with your plans. Ask him about onsite camping too!

Lyons Bike Park

Our efforts to build a world-class bike park in Boulder have encouraged other similar parks, including our neighbors to the north in Lyons.

The Lyons Bike Park design is approved and ready to build. The park, located very close to the Lyons end of the Picture Rock Trail, will feature a pump track, natural terrain loop, BMX rollers, tabletops, jumps, and more. The budget is tiny, but the fun factor promises to be huge.

The team will need volunteers for final shaping,  including a handful of experienced rider/builders to lead work groups. Construction is set to begin in the next couple weeks, and the park should be rocking for the Lyons Outdoor Games, June 12-14. For more information, check out this webpage.

Social Rides

The social rides are up and running! Check out their blogs for more information about weekly specifics! Get out and ride!

Film Nite 2009 Recap

Thanks to the attendees, sponsors, performers & vendors another great annual Film Nite on April 30th was had by all at the Boulder Theater.  Marty Caivano's clever short film showed us how to rock the Rock Garden at Hall... Darcy showed us how to get a DH machine to the top of a jungle mountain in Chile. And we all got a touch of vertigo watching the "Rampage" boys defy the laws of gravity.  In addition the "Freedom Riders" trailer set the stage for the full-feature, June 13th BMA fundraiser at the Green Guru Bike Culture Party!

Most importantly we raised money for SMBA to continue their fine work getting kids turned on to that thing we love to do...play in the dirt.  Check out more cool pics here courtesy of Adam Johnson and get out and ride !!!
Thank You!
