Heil Trail Day

Trail maintenance at Heil Valley Ranch on May 2

BMA's 2009 Trail Work Season gets it start at Heil Valley Ranch this Saturday, May 2.  BCPOS continues to show its dedication to excellent trail design and construction by taking serious aim at the needs of the Wapiti and Ponderosa Loop Trails.  This is not making lemonade out of lemons here;  we are doing some significant but necessary changes to stabilize these trails.

As we've written in this newsletter before, the placement and design of these trails in 2000 was less than optimal.... We have come a long way since that time, and all parties have a better undertanding of what is necessary to create sustainable, fun trail.  It's gratifying that we all seem to be on the same page these days.

Fifty volunteers are needed to grade ruts and berms, clean and restore water diversion structures and reshape the trail tread. This project runs from 8:00am-2pm. Minimum age is 14 with adult supervision. To register, please email WildWorkVolunteers@BoulderCounty.org or call 303-678-6193 by April 30.

Bring sturdy shoes, work gloves if you have them, sunscreen, clothes appropriate for various weather conditions, sunglasses or other eye protection and something to carry your water.  Lunch and drinks will be provided.

Valmont Clean Up Day May 9th

We need to begin site prep for the Valmont Bike Park.  We hope to begin construction over the summer, but work needs to be done this spring. We will meet at the site at 2pm, Saturday May 9th, to get the ball rolling on construction.  The site has been neglected for years, there are downed fences, windblown debris, and invasive weeds that need to be addressed.  BMA is a long term partner in the Valmont Bike Park, and we need your help.

We scheduled the clean up so you could ride in the morning, and help out in the afternoon.  We will break up into groups of ten, and learn about the park while we prep the site for construction.  It will be the first opportunity to see the plans on site, ask questions and help out.  We have to limit the number of volunteers to 60, and there has been a tremendous outpouring of offers to help.  Send an email to ride@rockymounts.com with "Valmont Clean Up" in the subject line, and plan on showing up May 9th at 2pm.  We will provide the materials, just bring work gloves.  BMA work days are rewarding and a good chance to meet other like minded members of the community, so pitch in, it is cool to help out.   Once we reach 60 volunteers, we will respond that the event is full.

The Valmont Bike Park will be a model for civic project for years to come.  Come out, watch it unfold, be a part of it.

Moab Photo Workshop

Bob Maynard's Colodado Plateau Photo Tours has one opening on it's May 9th, one day Moab Photo Workshop.  In addition to great mountain biking Moab has some of the most spectacular, photogenic sites on the planet. The workshop will begin before sunrise, break for mid-day (maybe a bike ride?) and head back out late afternoon for sunset shots.  We'll spend an hour per attendee the next morning working in Photoshop.  Regular cost of the workshop is $200. BMA members will get a $50 discount on this.  For more information see http://coloradoplateauphototours.com
