BMA Needs Responsible Voices

Despite all the gains we've achieved over the last decade, there are still those in the community who still have the attitude of 1985, when the mountain bike first showed up on the radar in Boulder County.  Their complaints have not changed from the 'bikes are bad' list of sins as you can see from recent Letters to the Editor found here and here

We know better.  Mountain bikers have had to bear the brunt of this negativity for too long and we have worked long and hard to change the situation on the trails and the courtesy of everyone on them.

So what do we do about it?  First and foremost, we don't let the conversation degrade into a shouting match in the meeting rooms or the newspapers.  We have FACTS that will support us, not emotional rhetoric, and BMA needs new voices to send that message.

If you are interested in being part of those of us who take the high trail to retort these scurrilous attacks, contact Mike Barrow or Jason Vogel.  We'll supply plenty of content and context for you to write and respond.  We don't want to take this lying down, but we don't want to descend into a mud fight.

Annual BMA Film Night
Submission Deadline: April 10th, 2009

We're putting our film night together for the end of April, and you can help! We're seeking short films about riding in the dirt! New and unique works by filmmakers of all backgrounds, films and videos of all genres welcome. Films should be between one and five minutes long (1-5 min) but slightly longer works of exceptional quality are welcome. If you love dirt and fat tires, in whatever form, submit your film or video and share it with hundreds of other members of the mountain bike community.

Were You at the Banquet?

Another banquet is in the books, and wow! Thank you to all who made it another success! This type of fun doesn't come together easy, and we couldn't do it without the donors, presenters, and especially those who attend!

Boulder's ex-mayor Shaun McGrath kicked off the evening before heading off to serve on Obama's staff. Ed Perault took home BMA's Hero Award, and our own Mike Barrow walked out with the BMA Lifetime Achievement Award. MC Dave Towle ran us through the live auction, ending with an amazing trip to the Galapagos Islands!

We hope to see you next year!

Colorado Can Cup
