I realized we'd run into technical difficulties when the phone started ringing last Monday morning.  People were calling to see if I was alright.  They had not received their Monday morning TWITHC and assumed something was wrong.  I'm fine.   Just perplexed as to why many of you did not  get your email, even though my  delivery report said otherwise. Calls to Windstream and Constant Contact didn't shed any light.  So, know that I'm working on it, which is a challenge since I'm not the technical type.  If you are a Windstream customer, call them and ask that our email newsletter be allowed through.

Throw Out the Welcome Mat

for Rolex Rider Kelly Prather

 Kelly Prather

It seems Tryon Horse Country is lucky to have the recent high-profile vistors we've had. In town this week is Kelly Prather, on a layover before she rides Rolex in two weeks. They were out at FENCE on Friday working the hills with colleague Beth Perkins.  Kelly's  mare's name is Ballinakill Glory.  From Bodega, CA, Kelly is a trainer who works at Chocolate Horse Farm in Petaluma. Andrea and James Pfieffer are the farm owners and Kelly works for them. James is a horseshoer and Andrea is a trainer. Kelly found her mare as a two year old while she was working in Ireland and she has trained her from the beginning. This is their second go at the Rolex CCI 4*. Last year the mare was badly spooked by some cameras moving too near the dressage arena but finished the event. They have represented the U.S. in Poland at the World Cup Championships two years ago.

Proposed Bill Would Expand Corolla Wild Horse Herd
corollo herd2

The Corolla wild horse herd might grow larger with the passing of a bill currently under consideration by the U.S. House of Representatives' subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, Oceans, and Insular Affairs.

Currently, 108 wild horses in the Corolla herd reside on a sanctuary in and around the Currituck National Wildlife Refuge on the northern tip of North Carolina's Outer Banks. The refuge is managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, a division of the Department of the Interior. The Corolla Wild Horse Fund, a nonprofit organization, manages the horses.

The proposed legislation, HR 306, the Corolla Wild Horses Protection Act, would allow a herd of not less than 110 free-roaming wild horses in and around such refuge, with a target population of between 120 and 130 free-roaming wild horses.

Sandy Sibley and Wisty

Sandy Sibley fell in love with Wisty.  And, the feeling was mutual. Wisty came to the Shelter after being chained with a litter of puppies. She caught Sandy's eye. Now the two are inseparable. Sandy says she is a perfectly behaved  lady in the house. Outside she loves to chase squirrels.
