Mitzi Lindsey

Julio Diamante

Not sure if you felt the tilt of the earth or not, but an end of an era is here. Friends, collegues, well-wishers gathered on Friday at Larkins in Columbus to give Mitzi Lindsey a spirited send off--to retirement. A well deserved retirement after 38 years of managing Tryon Riding  & Hunt Club as its Executive Director and then assistant Exec. Dir to daughter Laura. She's seen it all. From the club's early days with a manned office at the old Oak Hall Hotel, then across the street to the Depot and then finally to their own new digs on Trade Street, Mitzi has help steer  the club through thick and thin with 16 presidents and various boards, etc.  Didn't get a chance to say good-bye and good wishes? That's okay- you'll find her most nights at Larkins in the back room at the corner table. She's the one with the remote.

Foothills Humane Society Celebrates Hallmark Year
The Foothills Humane Society has plenty to celebrate with the closing of 2010.  Our Humane Society announced a 98.7% live release rate, (which means adoption, return to owners, sent to rescues or still living at the shelter)  of otherwise doomed animals. It took the dedication of  a superb staff, 200 active volunteers, 6,000 volunteer hours, a $400,000 budget, generous vets, and creative programs like Po Kitties, the Chicken Soup Fund, Lennie's Kids, foster families,a crackerjack Animal Control officer ....and a supportive community. That's you.  We can't say it officially yet, but these numbers are more than likely the best in the country.

Celebrate your commitment to No More Homeless Pets by sending TWITHC a picture of you and your shelter adopted pet. Let the world know you are part of the solution. (Remember the saying?  You're either part of the solution or....you're part of the problem).

Its a tall order, but let's keep the momentum going. Become a member of FHS by sending in a donation (any amount). Want to see more about how the FHS reached a 98.7% success rate?   Click here.

Who Is It?

Mitzi Lindsey

Mitzi Lindsey on Brown Bug, circa mid 1950's. Mitzi grew up in Ohio and was in the saddle early on. She helped her dad run the riding program at their family-owned summer camps. Mitzi migrated south and landed in Tryon in 1961. She successfully managed Tryon Riding and Hunt Club for 38 years. The rest, as they say, is history.

We're looking for vintage photos.

Please send us a photo of you as a child/teen on a horse or pony pre-1970.
