Many of you know that I commute to New Jersey to teach at Brookdale Community College three days a week. I teach economics, so I am always watching trends in the economy. Based on my observation of the gardening industry, it appears we are coming out of this recession. Most of our customers seem to be much happier, less worried, and much more ready to spruce up their landscape than they were at this time last year. We are running at a feverish pace to try to keep up with your demands. It's a good feeling to see most of you back in the swing of things again! |

IT'S ALL ABOUT ROSES WORKSHOP
Saturday, May 1, 10:00 a.m.
Shrub Roses with Perennials in the Landscape | Join us for a primer on growing beautiful roses. I personally believe every yard should have at least one rose bush. It could be a hybrid tea that gives you gorgeous cut roses all summer long, or a climber that reminds you of Grandma's house, or a shrub rose that brings a dull corner of the yard to life. Learn about the different varieties and what it takes to keep them healthy and happy.

JAPANESE BEETLE PATROL
They're coming. You know they are. Yes, Japanese Beetles. Every year we think, maybe this year they won't come, but you can count on it. They'll be back. You could pull out all the stops and hire some Ninja Turtles to fight them.

CAROLINA WILDLIFE CARE
KID'S DAY
was lots of fun and a huge success.
Thanks to you and your children, we raised $1200 to help CWC in their work rehabilitating injured and abandoned wildlife. For those kids who planted tomato plants, don't forget to bring in the biggest tomato you grew in the month of July to be measured for our Tomatomania contest. And, if you haven't seen the finished mural painted by all the kids, with the help of Karen Petta of The Studio in Lexington, stop by the nursery and check it out. It is AWESOME!

SIGN UP FOR FIRST ANNUAL
Buy your tomato plants at Wingard's. Bring in your biggest tomato, along with your receipt, during the month of July. Top three tomatoes win Gift Certificates worth up to $50.
HERE ARE THE TOMATOES WE PLANTED IN AN EARTH BOX
MAYBE WE'LL WIN OUR OWN CONTEST!
The Earth Box is a revolutionary new system for growing vegetables in tight areas The EarthBox is unique from any other growing method. The fertilizer remains on top of the soil and the water comes from the bottom. The growing medium is contained in a plastic box. Very little watering is necessary. We planted these tomato plants in late March, and look how they've grown!

Want to make a new flower bed this year, but can't stand the thought of preparing the soil? Just put a thick layer of newspaper over the grass or weeds that you want to convert to a bed. Cover it with a load of Wingard's own potting soil, called Lake Murray Mix. One cubic yard of Lake Murray Mix will cover 27 square feet with potting soil 12 inches deep. We'll even deliver it. And, for $100 and very little effort you'll have the perfect place to plant those shrubs and perennials you've been thinking about but had no room for. The soil is loose and easy to dig. Planting will be a joy. Now that's my kind of gardening...
There's always something blooming at Wingards!
