"My garden is my most beautiful masterpiece."
Claude Monet
If you're a gardener, you're an artist. Period. We create beauty... not just to look at but to immerse ourselves in. And, not only is the end product art, but the process of creating it is art. It is art that appeals to all five senses. We hear the music of the birds and the ripples of the fountain while we work; we inhale the fragrances; our eyes are drawn to just the right color combinations; we tempt our tastebuds with the edibles we grow; we caress the foliage to get a feel for its texture. We sit and rest on a bench in the garden, so we can surround ourselves with the artful masterpiece we have created.
At Wingard's, we celebrate the art of gardening every year by inviting you to join us for an evening of art in the garden. If you've never been to this event, please go to WingardsTV.com and look at the Art in the Garden III video from last year. You'll love it!

We quite often get questions about whether or not a particular plant is toxic for pets. I just found a great website from the ASPCA that lists toxic and nontoxic plants for dogs, cats and horses. Click here to go to the site and click on "dog", for example, and you will get a list of both types of plants. Be sure to scroll about half way down the list to find the nontoxic plants that you can feel very safe about planting. But just keep in mind, when a plant is on the toxic list, it may be poisonous only if large amounts are ingested. I have had oleander, which is considered highly toxic, in my yard for four years now, and my Britanny Spaniel and Black Lab have no problems with it. And, my friends have a Jack Russell and a Pug who romp around in a yard full of sago palms. These particular dogs simply don't eat the plants that are considered toxic. Doesn't mean your Brittany or Jack Russell will do the same, but I just wanted to let you know that many pets co-habitate with toxic plants all day long. |

We're going to enjoy this last month of summer. With such a small staff, we have to take turns vacationing. That'll all be over soon. We've added some new workshops and events for Fall, so there's lots of planning to do. We're rearranging the gift shop to make room for all the new items which are arriving daily. Never a dull moment. As you know, there's always something blooming at Wingard's.
From My Grandmother's Garden to Yours,
Delores Wingard Steinhauser
