Well folks, what can we say??? Our two for $70 special has been so popular, we decided to keep it for awhile and extended the days.  Through the summer, two can come in any weekday and enjoy three course dinners including soup and salad, choice of entree from our summer and house made ice cream for dessert plus a bottle of wine for just $70!   Got a third person joining you?  No problem - we'll add another glass of wine with the same three-course meal for an additional $35.  This is the best dining value on the Island! But come in early - the special only runs from 5:00 to 5:45 pm.

Pelindaba Lavender Farm
A new Visitor Center is open at Pelindaba Lavender Farm on San Juan Island.  It will feature poster and video monitor exhibits as well as audio self-guided tours covering the history of the farm, lavender cultivation, the processing of essential oil and other raw materials, and the many roles that lavender has played in cultures throughout the world over at least two millennia.
"For several years we have tried to share some of the basics through limited fixed signage in the fields.  In addition, we have given periodic in-depth docent tours, most notably with ElderHostel (now Exploritas) groups, as well as during our annual third-weekend-in-July harvest festival.  The consistently positive reception we have had for these tours has prompted us expand the educational experience more broadly," said Stephen Robins, founder/owner of the farm.
"In essence, for those who are interested in more than a relaxed stroll through the fields or browsing in the farm store, the Visitor Center will allow us to significantly enhance and enrich the visiting experience throughout the summer season rather just on special occasions."
In addition to the exhibits, visitors will be able to see the Distillery and, during the late summer distillation, watch it in active operation.  Also, for both adults and children, the lavender craft workshop that has been so popular during the festival will now operate throughout the season.  As always, plant starts will be available for sale along with lavender-based cookies and liquid refreshments.

Washington Vocational Services is proud to be a member of and support the activities of the San Juan Chamber of Commerce.  We want to take this opportunity to tell you about the work that we do and the people who we serve.
Washington Vocational Service (WVS) is a non-profit organization thatsupports the efforts of persons with a variety of disabilities to obtain and keep competitive employment.  We recognize that each individual has his or her own special talents and abilities which can be matched with the needs of a business or service.  WVS provides support by Employment Specialists/ Job Coaches who assist the person in seeking employment and are then available to accompany the person throughout their training period as they become skilled in their new position.  The services of Washington Vocational Services are provided at no cost to the employer or the potential employee.
Laura Jo Severson is the WVS representative (Employment Specialist/job coach) on San Juan Island.  From time to time, she  will be visiting area business, sharing information about WVS and introducing some of my clients. When she brings a client to visit a business, this serves two purposes:  confidence-building for the client and their introduction to the business.  Usually, the client will leave a resume and cover letter at the business.  It is hoped that the business will consider and keep this information for future positions.  These job seekers are frequently looking for part-time work, and they are seeking the opportunity to  use their abilities and skills to assist you in your business.

Kings Market Wine Tasting
Can you believe that we are now at the end of our third tasting season with "Stan The Wine Man" and Kings Market. This can only mean one thing; the third annual local wineries tasting. This is one of my favorite events, giving us all a chance to taste the local goods. San Juan Vineyards, Lopez Island Vineyards, Whidbey Island Winery and Mount Baker Vineyards will be at the Mullis Center once again along with a new addition... Skagit Brewery from Mount Vernon. If you have any friends who love good micro-brews, bring them along and maybe they can be introduced to a few wines too. You all know the time but I will remind you anyway: Thursday, June 10 from 4:30 to 7pm at the Mullis Community Center. If you know anyone who would like to come feel free to invite them and encourage them to get on my e-mail list. Special pricing on the wines will be available to all those in attendance.
Now a couple of things I would like to let you know about. First, in August I am going to try something new. Thursday, August 12 at "The Bean" coffee shop (Where the Lavender Farm store used to be) we will have an "Intimate Tasting With The Winemaker." Casey McClellan, winemaker at Seven Hills Winery will be here and I am opening it up to 50 folks who would like to sit down, taste through his wines and ask some questions. This will be conducted in a formal style and will be a fantastic opportunity to try some premier wines from Washington State while learning something from the man who makes the juice. It will be $10.00 per person and yes, there will be food, and special pricing on the wines. I will have a sign-up sheet at the tasting event this Thursday if you would like to secure a spot. Second, I will have a schedule printed up with the dates and events lined up for the 2010-2011 tasting season at the Mullis Center. This will give everyone a chance to see some of the exciting things in store for us starting in September.
I would like thank all of you for your loyal support of this event... It has become very successful because of you. I always look forward to seeing everyone at the tastings each month and I get a lot of good feedback from the vendors about how serious you guys and girls are about wine... very studious and fun at the same time. Speaking of loyal tasters, Ary Hobbel has supplied the phrase of the month that will get you an additional 5% off one of your favorite wines at the tasting event... This is a Dutch saying about combining wine and beer which is appropriate to this event. "Wine after beer gives pleasure; beer after wine makes for chagrin." There you go... See you this Thursday, June 10 from 4:30 to 7pm at the Mullis Center.
