2008 |
Annie |
Backen | Annie Backen is having a fantastic year at Sonoma Academy. She continues to be involved in Schools for Kabul (her service projects raised/donated over $40,000 for schools in Afghanistan this last year!) All-Stars (the student admisssions team at SA) and Girls Varsity volleyball (she was elected co-captain for next year). She continues to play the piano and is getting ready to ride in the Tour de Cure for her 6th year! She stays busy with academics and a full social life and is excited about researching and visiting colleges across the country. |
| 2008 | Giovanna | Grigsby-Rocca | Giovanna did a one month NOLS program last summer (2010): the National Outdoor Leadership School. She was in the Alaska Wilderness, and backpacked many, many miles - much of it vertical. At the end she and 3 others were on their own for 4 days, navigating their way through the wilderness... She learned a lot, including total confidence in her abilities to take care of herself and others in extreme conditions. Last fall, Gio went to Chewonki School in Maine. Chewonki specializes in having students for one semester of their junior year in high school- either fall or spring. It's a combination of working farm, a marine biology outpost, and a self-sufficient boarding school. Only 40 kids at a time. Gio absolutely loved it, and wants to go back and work there. Gio is back at Thacher now, for the 2nd half of Junior year. |
| 2008 | Willis | Mattei | Will Mattei made the Honor Roll and was accepted in the USC School of Cinematic Arts Summer Program where he will take a 6 week college level course in cinematography. Both Will and his brother Henry are enrolled in a year long SF Film Workshop which meets every Sunday in San Francisco. They are also in a rock band; Henry playing guitar and keyboards, Will on drums. |
| 2008 | Molly | Wyman |
Molly Wyman is a junior at The Thacher School. She spent the Fall trimester this year on a School Year Abroad program in Hanoi, Vietnam. Molly's experience studying in Vietnam, living with a Vietnamese host family, doing some community service and navigating her way through the busy streets of Hanoi led to tremendous growth. Not many 16 year olds have the opportunity to gain a global perspective and come to the realization of how fortunate we are to live in the US. |
| 2009 | Carlee | Flynn |
Carlee is LICENSED TO DRIVE! Also, Carlee received the Coach's Award for her participation in JV Volleyball at Justin-Siena. |
| 2009 | Sammy | Hurwitz |
Sammy Hurwitz is doing well as a Sophomore at Justin Siena. He is now playing Optimus League basketball and conditioning for Justin-Siena baseball. Sammy is looking forward to a school trip to Costa Rica and visiting some friends in Boston this summer. Hopefully he will also be certified as a Life Guard as well. |
| 2009 | JJ | Janeck |
JJ Janeck is well. She completed her freshman year at Justin-Siena, but then decided to transfer to St. Helena High, where she has reconnected with many kids she has known since she started at the Montessori School here when she was two years old! She is enjoying St. Helena High and just joined the swim team. At Justin she played water polo. She still enjoys riding horses. We all have such wonderful memories of the three years JJ was at Blue Oak Middle School, and we are incredibly grateful for the experience. We miss you! |
| 2009 | Susannah | Jennings | Susannah Jennings just ended her junior varsity basketball season at Justin-Siena as co-captain with fellow BOS alum Claudia Luna-Morales. The team came in second in the 10-team Marin County Athletic League. She earned a 4.43 GPA fall semester with three honors classes, and her favorite subjects are algebra and film studies. |
| 2009 | Chloe | Lattin | Chloe Lattin is happy to be playing Lacrosse at Justin-Siena this Spring. Chloe is especially enjoying her Human Physiology class. |
| 2009 | Dom | Lefever | Dom is doing well at Justin. He is playing Lacrosse for Justin this year. This is the first year Justin has included Lacrosse as a sport. Justin Siena is the first high school in Napa County to have a lacrosse team. Several Blue Oak students are playing for Justin. Dom is also in Honors Spanish II. |
| 2009 | Christophe | Rimann |
Christophe has been very busy his sophomore year. We are back in the Bay Area and he is currently attending the College Prep School in Oakland. Although he misses his friends in Geneve (he talks to them a few Saturday mornings a month via iChat), he is also really enjoying the new school. He has adapted very quickly and well. The students are extremely mature, intelligent and inclusive, and has made him feel very welcomed. He joined the school debate team, in policy debates, and is very busy with that. Over the weekend of Feb. 12, the CPS team was at a national tournament in Stanford, where Christophe and his teammate were the only JV team to qualify for the elims from his school. They are debating in Berkeley on Feb. 19th. He took a hiatus from piano last July, and has taken it up again this past month, studying under a teacher from the Crowden School of Music in Berkeley. Somehow, he is managing to squeeze in a little practice time between school work and debate. As relaxation, he started taking fencing lessons this year, and is enjoying it very much. He likes the fact that it is both a physical, as well as a mental, sport. |
| 2010 | Alex | Ackerman |
Alex was just listed on the Honor Roll at Justin-Siena with a 4.0 GPA and is still actively involved with his music, both playing guitars and building them. He is still designing and building various projects and currently working on a 21 foot working trebuchet to fling pumpkins into the family vineyard! |
| 2010 | Daniel | Cohn-Payne |
Daniel has achieved his Brown Belt in Karate. An accomplishment that has taken him years to attain. |
| 2010 | Isabella | Emmerich |
Bella has to admit high school so far has been scary! But fun. She is involved in the play, and many clubs (such as LSY, Think Pink, and a few others.) Bella has been considering taking art classes at Napa College and still has plans to attend Oxbow as a senior. Making lots of new friends happily still staying close to old ones. High school- its a Chill and a Thrill. |
| 2010 | Henry | Mattei |
Henry Mattei is on the first ever Justin-Siena lacrosse team, is Vice President of his freshman class and made the Honor Roll this past semester. He has also taken up the study of Jazz piano at Kim Markovich's recommendation and is loving it. Both Henry and his brother Will are enrolled in a year long SF Film Workshop which meets every Sunday in San Francisco. They are also in a rock band; Henry playing guitar and keyboards, Will on drums. |
| 2010 | Henrik | Schuh | Henry is REALLY enjoying life at Marin Academy, and the transition to high school couldn't have been easier. Before they even started school, the freshmen went on overnight camping trips in small groups, and that really helped kids feel at home when School got started. Henry was the only freshman on a 4-day backpacking trip in the Sierras--lots of rain, hail and lightning....he had a fabulous time! |
| 2010 | Jack | Searle | Jack Searle is very happy and thriving at Justin Siena! He was on the Fall wrestling team and just started lacrosse. This is the first time that Justin Siena has ever had a Lacrosse team, so is a momentous occasion. He continues to enjoy many of his Blue Oak friends. |
