Life Enrichment

Opportunity

John Levitt was a beloved resident of the Villa for many years His sister, Carol Schwartz, set up the Stanley and John Levitt Resident Activity Fund in memory of John and her husband, Stanley. The fund provides leisure opportunities such as bowling, movies and outings to residents who do not have the means to otherwise participate.

Donations to the fund greatly enrich the lives of residents who cannot afford to participate in the many leisure opportunities off campus. Thank you, Ms.Schwartz!

Mentors make a difference!
Ronnie holds the "good luck" poster signed by friends who attended his retirement party. His mentor family, Jon, Judy, Jasper and Jaxon Edwards, consider Ronnie a part of their family. Ronnie retired from his job at Barton Creek Country Club after 24 years of employment.

When The Village staff threw a retirement party in December for Ronnie Luna, the Edwards family was the first to pitch in to help. The family of four has been a steadfast supporter and mentor to Ronnie since 2002, and their two boys--Jasper and Jaxon--have grown up thinking of Ronnie as another member of their family.  Over the past decade, Judy, Jon and their sons have included Ronnie in holiday gatherings and even vacations. Their mentoring efforts have had a tremendous positive affect on Ronnie's personality and has provided him with a family that he otherwise would not have.

After attending Ronnie's Special Olympics competitions, the Edwards began taking an even more active role in his life as coaches and began traveling with the athletes to state competitions. This has enabled Ronnie to spend even more time with his mentor family. Their care and commitment have been an invaluable gift to both Ronnie and his well being.

We have mentoring opportunities available now!
If you would like to mentor a resident individually or as a family, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Katherine Lehman, via email, or by calling 512-282-1144 ext.1050.

Time to join the MPFA!

By Donna MacKinney, co-president

Thanks to all of you who contributed time and resources to the Marbridge Parents and Families Association. Because of your financial support and willingness to volunteer, we were able to support Marbridge residents with many fun activities, entertainment, and support throughout 2011.

I'd like to thank Pam Morby and Martha Marks for their service as secretary and treasurer in 2011. In 2012, Lana Levins and I will continue as "co-presidents." Tom O'Brien is assuming the position of treasurer and Margaret Wolf is our new secretary.

Please watch for your membership form coming in the January mail from Marbridge. Return it with your January tuition payment and we'll get started right away planning 2012 support and activities for our loved ones at Marbridge.

Ranch Director
Brian Haddock
earns Long-Term Care Administrators Certificate

Texas State offers a Long Term Care Administrators Certificate program that requires 15 post graduate level hours and covers all the required domains of practice to be eligible to take the Nursing Home Administrators Exam. Many of the topics are applicable to the assisted living environment at the Ranch, including ethics, leadership, financial management and resident care. The program is one year in duration, and Ranch Director Brian Haddock completed it in December with an impressive 4.0 GPA!

Brian must still fulfill a 1,000-hour internship under a licensed preceptor in a skilled nursing facility before testing to become a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. He began his internship at Westminster Manor in November, under Administrator Chuck Borst, who was voted Administrator of the year for 2011 and is part of the Texas Culture Change Coalition, an organization of healthcare providers seeking to bring beneficial, patient-centered care. Marbridge is a founding member of the organization.

Upon completing the internship. Brian is eligible to take a state and a federal test to become a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. We congratulate Brian on completing the program and feel confident he will complete all requirements and testing to earn his license.

LIFE Lines is published for family, friends, volunteers and staff members of Marbridge, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that provides training and residential care for adults with intellectual disabilities.
