The Dorothy L. Smith
Memorial Community Service Award
|
Accepting the award for all Marbridge athletes is Coach Shelly McGinnis, right. Annette Smith-Knight presents the award in honor of her mother, Dorothy L. Smith.
Annette Smith-Knight, renowned women's basketball star who played for the University of Texas and now serves as the university's director of community service, presented a memorial award in honor of her mother, Dorothy L. Smith at the Marbridge Sports Banquet on November 6, 2011. Mrs. Smith was a passionate supporter of community involvement and athletics. The award will be presented each year to a deserving resident that shares some of the same passion for sportsmanship and community service that Mrs. Smith demonstrated.
For its inaugural year, Smith-Knight decided to present the award to all of the Marbridge athletes. We are honored to receive this award on behalf of all residents who participate in sports and look forward to choosing a worthy resident to receive the recognition each year at the sports banquet.

Max Clampitt chosen for 2011 Phillip Bunton Award

Max Clampitt at the Marbridge Sports Banquet, with his Phillip Bunton Award.
Congratulations to Max Clampitt for earning the prestigious Phillip Bunton Award at the Annual Marbridge Sports Banquet on November 6.
"Max was chosen because of his dedication, coachability and hard work. He is always at practice, sometimes coming directly from work, and always give 100 percent," said Coach Shelly McGinnis. "Max has a wonderful, positive attitude, is a real team player, represents Marbridge exceptionally well, and truly embodies good sportsmanship and citizenship."
The Phillip Bunton award was created in 2005 to memorialize volunteer coach Phillip Bunton, who donated countless hours of service to the Marbridge athletics program.

Looking for ideas to light up your Christmas giving? Marbridge has many small needs that can be easily fulfilled. Here are a few ideas: - The Ranch community needs an outdoor movie screen to show movies in the summer or when the weather is nice.
- The Village community is out of iWalk money and gift cards that provide incentives for residents to exercise and stay fit. The cards typically are small amounts, starting at $5. Favorites are Walmart, Starbucks and Target.
- The Village also needs a new or gently used floor buffer.
- The Ranch needs extra controllers for its Wii system to allow more residents to play at a time.
- The Ranch also needs a Flip video camera or other inexpensive digital video camera to record Marbridge life for sharing with families and friends.
- The Villa needs crayons, DVD movies, color markers, butcher paper (all colors), Command 3M damage-free hooks, "champagne" grape juice for its New Years celebration, cookies and hot cocoa for its holiday dance and all types of Christmas decorations, including stockings, yard signs, ornaments, music CDs, etc.
- Gift cards for all communities are always welcome and are used for a variety of needs or incentive rewards.
