Wow! Great gifts from Wal-mart! Our volunteer coordinator, Katherine Lehman, surveys boxes filled with clothing, books and other items donated by local Wal-mart stores.
Many thanks to our friends at the Wal-mart stores on Brodie Lane and at Southpark Meadows for their generous gifts of clothing and other merchandise. The two stores have also sent troops of employee volunteers to our campus.
"They came out a couple of weeks ago to play a game of softball with our B Team," said Katherine Lehman, our volunteer coordinator. "Around 20 Wal-mart volunteers came out in matching shirts and had ice chests filled with bottled water and fresh fruit for everyone. On top of that, they donated a Wal-mart gift card to be used on athletics-related purchases for the residents."
Lehman said the stores began sending numerous donations of merchandise, such as socks and other clothing, as well as school supplies.
"I was told to call them every week to see what they have for us," said Lehman. "I took six boxes of brand new socks and underwear that they donated to the Villa, and Alicia Taylor, our social worker, lit up with excitement because these are all items that will definitely be put to use."
The Wal-mart volunteers will be back out to play softball in mid-September and again in October. If you want to watch the fun, check the Dates to Note schedule at left and come out to the ball field around 6pm!

New TV goes up in the Villa dining hall--a generous gift from Charlcie Theobald
Ralph Webster, left, and Mark Rodriguez put the finishing touches on the installation of a new 70-inch LED TV in the Villa dining hall. The beautiful sights and lovely sounds of nature now serenade Villa residents as they enjoy their meals in the dining hall. A new 70-inch LED television went up the end of August, a generous gift from Charlcie Theobald in memory of her sister, Dora Hughie, who was cared for at the Villa.
"I believe the nature sights and sounds will assist in calming the residents during meals and make the dining experience more enjoyable," said Jeff Tompkins, Villa director.
A new sound system was also installed with the television, which will provide a theater-quality experience for movie matinee activities.
"We will also use the set for staff development," said Tompkins. "The TV is internet ready, so we can stream You Tube CNA training videos and other educational videos for staff training."
Tompkins said the generosity of Charlcie Theobald is simply overwhelming.
"It's truly incredible," he said, adding, "The men's group on Fridays is anxiously anticipating their first NFL game on this 70-inch beauty!"
Many thanks to Mrs. Theobald for her kindness!
