Steve Stovall retires

steve

Congratulations to Steve Stovall on his recent retirement from campus employment. Steve has had a long working career and this is the second retirement for him.
"He retired from the State a few years back and then worked on campus at the Villa, but now he is fully retired," said Sally Fletcher, director of The Village. "We had a fun party for him!"

Alice Hurt graduates

Alice and pastor

Alice Hurt recently completed an extensive, two-year Christian Women's Studies Program for which she received the "Certificate in Biblical Studies" from the Southwest Church of Christ. Her successful completion of the course took both determination and commitment, and we are all very proud of her accomplishment.
Congratulations, Alice!

Marbridge at forefront of advocating change in
long-term care

TX culture change logo

Marbridge is a founding member of a new group of long-term care professionals from both public and private organizations that are committed to improving the culture of long-term care in Texas. The group has organized a symposium scheduled for September 23, 2011, that will showcase innovative ideas and best practices in the long-term care Culture Change Movement.

"The symposium is designed to educate and challenge long-term care professionals to move toward person-centered and person-directed care," said Scott McAvoy, Marbridge vice president of operations.

The symposium will be held at Texas State University in San Marcos, and will feature state and nationally recognized speakers.

"We are fully committed to assisting a culture change in attitudes about the long-term care of the elderly and disabled populations," said McAvoy. "Residents have even gotten involved. Our art class residents are working on a design to place on a T-shirt for the symposium."
Summer Luau Fun at The Ranch!

luau Above, clockwise:  Matthew Miller tests his flexibility on the limbo line; Michelle Phillips tries out the hula hoop; Jonathan Mettke and Larry Hale get into the groove with a hula dance.

Mid-July brought a totally different kind of hot time to residents at the Ranch. Students enrolled in Texas State University's Therapeutic Recreation Program teamed up with Resident Trainer DeDe Ramirez to host a luau for the residents. Students Robyn Patterson and Keegan Frick did a great job providing the decorations needed to give the Senior Dorm recreation room a tropical feel. Residents eagerly donned "grass" skirts and colorful leis to complete the Hawaiian experience. They danced, twirled hula-hoops and lined up for the limbo--a great way to celebrate summer!

Newly remodeled rooms at The Villa!

D Hall remodel

Residents who live in D Hall in The Villa are thrilled with their newly remodeled rooms. Each one features new flooring, counter tops and window treatments. The bathrooms have been re-done as well, with new counter tops, lighting and mirrors.

"I just love it!" said resident Rebecca Marunchak. "Everything is new!"
