Project SEARCH
graduates six more residents

crowd applauding
A large crowd of family members, friends and Seton staff members attended this year's graduation ceremony to honor our resident interns. From left:  Justin Dick, Brooke Duren, Kyle Leyden, Brendan Kelly, Bryan Barnett and Luke Stenftenagel.

Bryan and JennyGraduates learn skills they can apply to the competitive work place

Jenny Hawkins, left, Project SEARCH coordinator, described each resident intern's progress in the program, including a memorable story about each one. Bryan Barnett chuckles as she recalls his reaction to being given a pager. In back, Justin Dick has taken his spot among the line-up of graduates.

The auditorium at Seton Medical Center Austin was packed with well wishers on May 14. All had come to cheer on six resident interns who were graduating from the 2010 Project SEARCH job skills training program. The ceremony marks the end of the third year that Project SEARCH has been in existence. Project SEARCH is the first program of its kind in Texas. The partnership between Marbridge and the Seton Family of Hospitals began in the fall of 2007 with six interns and three participating hospital departments. This year, interns and graduates worked in 11 departments throughout the hospital.  The 2010 intern class includes Justin Dick, Brooke Duren, Kyle Leyden, Brendan Kelly, Bryan Barnett and Luke Stenftenagel. Six Project SEARCH graduates from previous years have maintained employment with Seton Medical Center Austin, while others took their newly developed skills to compete for employment opportunities elsewhere in the community. In all, 12 resident graduates from the program are employed.

If you would like to help fund this worthwhile program, you may donate now, or contact Michelle Levy, vice president of development, at 512-282-1144, ext. 1006, or mlevy@marbridge.org

Semester Break!
MPFA makes training breaks fun and entertaining

puppets
Mr. Puppet visited the campus for two shows on May 11, courtesy of the Marbridge Families and Parents Association (MPFA). He provided fun comic relief during the break between spring and summer training semesters. Residents at The Villa enjoyed the early show, while Ranch and Village residents attended a later show in the chapel.

In addition to Mr. Puppet, the MPFA also hosted a much anticipated Bingo event in the Senior Dorm Activities Room on May 19. With the support of the MPFA, our breaks between semesters are now punctuated by fun and entertaining events. Thank you, MPFA!

John Bonnet and Kenny Jones join the Marbridge "biker dudes"

biker John
Three wheelin' is a popular past time on the Ranch campus. On any given visit, you're bound to see several residents cruising about on three-wheel bicycles, many customized by their owners.

Resident trainers began teaching John Bonnet how to ride by borrowing another resident's three-wheeler. When his brother, Ben, visited campus and saw John riding, he was so delighted he immediately emailed a photo to his mother. She was so delighted, she shared it with her husband, and they promptly decided to get John his very own three wheeler!

kenny's bikeThe same delight was evident with Kenny Jones. Kenny received his bike courtesy of a caring donor and was so happy, he gave the bike a hug when he first saw it!

Both John and Kenny have joined the rest of the "Ranch Pack" and are now enjoying their three-wheelin' ways!
