Fantastico! Bravos for the Spaghetti Opera!
Clockwise: Members of the Marbridge Choir sway and dance to a lively version of Mambo Italiano; Walter Hendrick, Mark Tuite and Max Clampitt play a convincing Pope and Brothers entourage; Amy Koch sings Se Tu M'ami; the Mafia gang includes Matt Landry, Bob Reed and Scott McCorkle; Gema Langford belts out a great rendition of The Rooster.
The Marbridge Choir and Marbridge Players delighted a full house on August 20 as they cavorted across Italy, displaying remarkable singing talent and acting abilities. Under the direction of Tamara Harper, our music instructor, the residents put on a Spaghetti Opera that was both clever and polished.
The talented Gema Langford delivered another expressive performance as the worried mother whose son, Salvatore, played by Cody Gustafson, leaves her for a pilgrimage to Rome. Along the way, he meets an unsavory Mafia gang that included Matt Landry, who captured perfectly a Whatcha matta you?! accent that drew many chuckles. Humor was sprinkled throughout the play, with Max Clampitt taking the prize for excellent timing and delivery in his role as the waiter at the Italian diner, "Marbridgiano."
Amy Koch also shined in her apprisal of the love-starved peasant girl moping over unrequited love; that is, until she quickly develops an interest in Salvatore. Michael Taylor performed a flawless Street Beggar Song, and made nary a slip as he glided through a definitely difficult vibrato. The Vatican City entourage also sparked laughter. They paraded through several scenes chanting, in perfectly flat intonations, "We are coming to a town...turn your smile into a frown..." Walter Hendrick as the Pope and Mark Tuite as Vivaldi sported hysterical costumes and were spot-on in their portrayals.
Our performance culminated in a truly professional duet by the extraordinarily talented resident trainer Tony Garcia and guest singer Jenny Henderson. We extend an extra round of applause to Mathew Kennedy, a volunteer and real life drama coach, who filled in at the last moment for the role of the dreaming Henry.
All in all, it was a funny and entertaining show. If you missed this year's August Theatre, be sure to put next year's event on your calendar. You won't be disappointed!

A new support group!
| Youth Hockey Foundation chooses Marbridge

The Youth Hockey Foundation of Austin recently made Marbridge one of the beneficiaries of its golf tournament held on August 17. Bryan Soltis, one of our regular volunteers, suggested Marbridge at the group's first organizational meeting for the tournament. Several YHFA board members then visited our campus to see for themselves if Marbridge would be a good cause to support.
"Once we had a tour, we knew that we wanted to get involved out there," said Laura Morrison, one of the group's board members. "When our hockey season gets started, we will also have our youth hockey players get involved in doing some community service at Marbridge. Community service is part of our mandate to have our youth players be well rounded citizens."
We look forward to seeing the Youth Hockey Foundation members and players on future service outings! We are blessed to have new friends like the YHF!
