Resident volunteers helped pass out water to Keep Austin Weird 5K participants
Missy Rosen is all smiles at the Keep Austin Weird 5K fund-raising race on June 26 to benefit Austin Parks Foundation.
The starting line-up provided many unusual sights, with people dressing in a wild assortment of costumes for the famed run through the streets of Austin. Billy McLemore and Abby MacKinney stand transfixed on the weird sights passing before their eyes.
"We were stationed at the first water stop, where we had the opportunity to view all of the silly costumes that participants wore during this truly unique race," said Katherine Lehman, volunteer coordinator. "We hope to participate in more races in the fall. This one was about as hot as we could handle!"

Promoting change in the field of long-term care Cross section of staff embraces Eden LifeLong Living philosophy
A cross section of Marbridge staff members took part in continuing education training provided by David Seaton that promotes well-being and a better quallity of life for individuals with intellectual disabilities and the staff that support them.
In early 2006, David Seaton, an innovator in holistic long-term care for individuals with cognitive disabilities, heard an interview with Dr. Bill Thomas on National Public Radio about transforming long-term care for the elderly in America. As Dr. Thomas explained the mission and philosophy behind the Eden Alternative, Seaton, who owned and operated a long-term care facility for individuals with cognitive disabilities in central Texas, became intrigued. Seaton believed much of the philosophy could be applied to his resident population, and he transformed his facility into an Edenized LifeLong Living Community.
On Friday, June 25, Mr. Seaton shared his vision and experience with 28 Marbridge staff members from across all programs and positions. The tradition and philosophy of care that has existed at Marbridge since its inception is a natural fit with the LifeLong Living philosophy, which is based on the belief that individuals with intellectual disabilities can continue to grow and learn within a supportive environment.
"We look forward to our organizations collaborating more in the future and to Marbridge helping us develop the Texas culture change coalition," said Seaton.
