She's a champion volunteer!
| Debbie Legg hits the 5,000-hour mark!
Debbie Legg regularly gives of her time, treasure and immense talents in working with residents who participate in sports. She coaches in the evenings after working all day and arranges her vacations so she can travel to Special Olympics events with the team.
Words alone cannot convey our deep appreciation for all Debbie brings to Marbridge. We are speechless except to simply say,
"THANK YOU, DEBBIE!"

K-9 Volunteers
| Lady and Lucy bring smiles to Villa residents
Every Tuesday afternoon, the Villa goes to the dogs. Sort of. Actually, the dogs come to the Villa! Maureen O'Donnell-Hintz makes the trip with her registered therapy dogs, Lady Lovett and Lucy Lu. Sometimes Maureen's husband, Tom, comes along as well.
"We are so very blessed to have been offered this opportunity for more pet therapy with all the wonderful benefits," said Kimberly Flores, Villa recreation coodinator. "It not only enhances the quality of life for our residents, but also offers the staff and caregivers the opportunity to become more engaged, thus increasing better interpersonal relationships."
Many thanks to Lucy Lu and Lady Lovett and their people parents for the love and smiles they give to Villa residents!

Summer winds down with a splash bash
Clockwise: Scott McCorkle enjoys a delicious snow cone; Daniel Hale and Abby MacKinney at poolside; Tiffany Kirkpatrick, Alice Hurt and Brad Roark cool off in the pool; parent Donna MacKinney offers John Bonnet a cold snow cone; Kyle Leyden takes the plunge.
The Marbridge Parents & Families Association sponsored a fun, end-of-summer event in the form of a Sno Cone Party at the pool during the break between summer and fall semester training. With temperatures near 100 degrees, the event brought an opportunity for all residents to cool off and say good-bye to summer. Many thanks to the MPFA for sponsoring this event!

MPFA holds general meeting
| MPFA seeks officer nominations
by Donna MacKinney
MPFA's third general meeting of 2010 was held on Sunday, September 26, at the Marbridge Camp House. Tom Leyden gave a detailed progress report on the Athletic and Event Center, Victory Hall. We are very pleased with the thought that has gone into designing a facility that all Marbridge residents will benefit from. We discussed officer nominations for 2011. We still need a nominee for treasurer. If you are interested in working as treasurer for the organization, please contact Peter Hubbell. Lana Levins (llevins@att.net) can provide you with information on the duties of treasurer. Save the date for the 2011 Marbridge Parents and Family Day, set for June 11.
Our next general membership meeting will be held an hour prior to the beginning of the Annual Sports Banquet on November 12. We hope to see you there.

Nurse Mary Willie and Coach Hughie Shaw celebrate milestone service achievements

Top: Scott McAvoy, vice president of operations; Mary Willie; James Stacey, president; and Steve Larson, Villa director; were on hand to congratulate Mary Willie at an event attended by co-workers and management in her honor on September 30. Below: Jana Kay, training and education director, congratulates Coach Hughie Shaw at at event attended by family, friends, volunteers and team mates that have worked with Hughie over the years.
"Mary began working at Marbridge while the bricks were still being laid for the Villa," said Scott McAvoy, vice president of operations, in his remarks commemorating the 25th anniversary of Mary Willie's service to the residents of Marbridge. "No other person has achieved this milestone with Marbridge. We had to special order her 25th anniversary pin."
Mary's role of nurse manager allows her ample opportunities to show others that she is a hard-working, loyal staff member who truly cares for the residents and works well with other staff. She is dedicated to her job and loves her profession. All these qualities make Mary a treasured gem on our team.
"Hughie began his career at a time when Marbridge did not even participate in Special Olympics or any type of sports," said Jana Kay, director of training and education. "He started the first softball team for Marbridge, and today more than 145 residents participate in nine different sports."
Coach Hughie has had a tremendous and positive impact on the sports and activities program at Marbridge, helping it grow and thrive during his 20-year tenure. He is beloved by both staff and residents and is truly a blessing to us all.
