Welcome to Workforce Resource!
Welcome to the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers' inaugural edition of Workforce Resource, a monthly electronic newsletter that will examine health care workforce issues, highlight the roles of employees across the health center network (Who's Who) and keep you informed about League workforce programs and policy development (What's New). In addition, we hope to provide you with information that can help you in your day-to-day job (Good to Know, Green Hints, Workforce Calendar).

We hope that you will take advantage of this publication to learn more about what the League and other health centers are doing to meet these challenges, and to stay up to date with the emerging trends and issues in Workforce Development.

Sincerely,
James W. Hunt, Jr., President & CEO
Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers

Who's Who - Felicita Sepulveda
Felicita Sepulveda has been working at the Brockton Neighborhood Health Center for five years. She began as a way-station clerk and is now the primary registrar at the front desk. She greets everyone that comes into the health center, patients and staff, and knows them all. Felicita moved to the United States from Puerto Rico 13 years ago and recently organized a Puerto Rican presentation and lunch for the health center staff where she cooked traditional food and danced a traditional dance called Plena. She also preformed this dance at the health center's recent World AIDS Day celebration. Felicita, who is extremely active in her community as well as a single mother of six children, says,"I love the center, and I love the employees. I am so happy to get up and come to work here every day."

CHC Special Project Grants
The Community Health Center Special Project Grants -- rolled out in January 2009 -- were developed to enhance retention of providers at League member health centers. The grants support funded projects that match the clinical or career interest of selected providers and the programmatic needs of their health centers. The funding made available by these grants will assist community health centers in offering paid protected time for primary care providers undertaking approved projects. Requests for proposals for the 2010 grant cycle will be posted in November.
