   Casey

Sandcastle Casey of Sha-Zeb (Casey Gardner) was born at Sandcastle Farms in St. Augustine of CH Stillwater's Coral Reef Duet (Sire) and Sandcastles Leia of Alderaan (Dam).   Casey was one of nine golden retriever puppies from this litter and was adopted by George and Sally Gardner of St. Augustine.

She was brought home on January 1, 2001 in time for football viewing with her dad.

Casey was an avid campaigner for her dad through 3 successful elections. She proudly carried her own campaign sign for him and celebrated with special biscuits after each of his victories.

Her favorite pastime was burying cell phones, remote controls and her mom and dad's shoes.

Casey's favorite place in the house was under her dad's desk. She would lay there all day while he worked and was rewarded quite often with trips out to the back yard for a little ball toss and special treats.

She surprised her parents on a few occasions by leaping up on the bed in the middle of the night with old remains of birds and squirrels.

She loved going to pet stores and picking out her own squeaker toys which she managed to deconstruct in a matter of hours at home, eating much of the stuffing in her haste to get to the elusive squeaker.

She loved going to Antigua Vets and eating as many treats out of their "gumball" machine as she could before getting on the scale and going in to see Dr. Eric or Dr. John.

As difficult as it was in these later months to walk, she always managed to run up the vets office steps and into the waiting room to get her beloved snacks.   She loved going by Bayview and Douglas where two houses held two dogs both named Bailey who would bark a welcome to her.

She knew where every cat in the neighborhood lived and would make a special stop each day at Karen and Dennis Rogers' house to see if their cat was in sight ... Casey couldn't understand how that cat could dare to taunt her.

Casey walked her North City neighborhood daily with her mom and dad...she knew it was her job to try and keep them healthy. She had favorite stops: Sally Anne Freeman's beautiful front yard was always good for a few hearty sniffs. The Florida Motel was her favorite place to stop for a drink of water. She loved the ladies who would come out and give her a pat.

Casey was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor on August 26, 2011 and crossed the Rainbow Bridge on October 20th.   She is very missed by her mom and dad and all who knew her.

The Rainbow Bridge

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
