FCC has begun a new weekend preaching series based on Barry Cameron's book, "The ABC's of Financial Freedom." The Elders came to the conclusion that, since it was so relevant and appropriate, we as a church should seek to share the valuable truths contained therein. The book was distributed to the preaching staff, and they are in agreement that the book does indeed possess some life changing truths. Last week, the first of four messages brought to our attention the question of "What is my attitude towards finances and debt?" Future weekend messages will cover items such as the Bondage of debt, the Choices we make, and our Decisions before us. We pray that you will make every effort to be with us during this four-week series. This is a great time for each of us to reflect on our personal finances, our view towards belongings, and the reality of how we are often prohibited from giving our best to God, while living our lives in a subtle prison of obligation and bondage. Don't let the series end at the pulpit either. At the end of the fourth week, FCC will begin a Sunday School class taking these concepts and developing them in greater detail. Sign up at the Welcome Center at each of our weekend services. If you would like a copy of this excellent book for yourself, pick up a free copy in the bookstore! |
Elders' Corner As Iron Sharpens Iron, So One Man Sharpens Another. Proverbs 27:17 Last month we talked about fathers and sons, and gave some examples of the vital teaching that should occur in that relationship to raise up the next generation of spiritual leaders. But what happens when there is no father present, or when a father is present physically, but not spiritually? What happens when boys and men need someone besides their father to come alongside them with guidance? Enter the mentoring relationship. There exists a great need for godly mentors, someone who sees the potential, has the gifts of wisdom and encouragement, lives his life as an example, and truly loves and believes in those he mentors. I believe, we as Christians, are called by God to be mentors. The bible is full of great examples of mentoring relationships; Jethro and Moses, Moses and Joshua, Nehemiah and Ezra, Elijah and Elisha, Barnabas and John Mark, Paul and Timothy. And how about Jesus and the twelve disciples, as Jesus took them under his wing and taught them how to "fish." That last mentoring relationship changed the world forever! Mentoring may sound it's time consuming or a lot of work, but just like missions work or other jobs you can do in the service of our awesome God, you will find out that you are blessed much more than those you serve. If you would like some more information about becoming a mentor, or finding a mentor, join us next Sunday at 11:00 in room 141 as we study mentoring in the Quest for Authentic Manhood Bible study.

Jesus Jam and All-Nighter! Jesus Jam is August 20th this year, and like always, we will have our all-nighter at the church immediately following the concert! If you reserve and buy your concert tickets through Jeff, or the front office, by Tuesday the 17th, they will cost you $8 per ticket. If you buy them from KCFY, they are $10. If you buy them at the door, they will cost $14...so buy them early! Simply bring your $8 to the office or to Jeff by Tuesday the 17th, and you will save some money! Do not wait too long to do it, or you will forget! The all-nighter begins at the church right after the concert. Middle school and high school ages (6th through 12th grade) are welcome! There will be food, games, and tons of other fun, including the 100 foot slip 'n slide, so bring clothes to get wet in (no bikinis please)! The cost is only $5 per person, and we will be there until 7:00 a.m. the morning of the 21st. Bring a friend to the concert and the all-nighter and join us!!
High School Service Project! We will be returning to Corrina's house to work with her on August 14th. We will meet at the church at 7:00 a.m. and will return by 11:00 a.m. Bring sun screen, a hat, gloves, and wear close-toed shoes. Flip flops and "mandals" are a bad idea!! If you have a water bottle, bring it too! Middle School Service Project! Middle schoolers will have their service project on Saturday the 21st. Watch for details, as Dustin is planning another great project for you!!
Congratulations to the following students who were baptized as a result of summer camp: Jarred Hillsberry, Raychael Castro, Brady Anderson, and Walter Landers.

third year, FCC will be traveling to Globe in
October and November to construct
a home on the San Carlos Apache Reservation. There are five weekends on the calendar when teams from Yuma will leave on Friday afternoon and return on Sunday or Monday. In addition to building, there will be other projects to assist ARM staff members. One weekend, the FCC Missions Ministry will partner with the Children's Ministry to put on a carnival on the Res. Each weekend will be open to anyone over 18, but specific groups are recruiting for specific weekends. In addition to the Children's Ministry, there will be a group from the College Ministry, the Singles' Friday Night Bible study, plus the Missions Ministry. I wrote to the staff of ARM last year at the conclusion of the project, "It was amazing to see people who had already put in a hard work week, travel four hours to work 12-hour days and love it." One of the best parts of these weekends is the fellowship going and coming, around meal tables, and in the dorms. These are the times when relationships are built that last a lifetime.
Other items of interest in the Mission Department; Walt Ridgley will be here the end of the month, the Liles family and the Kallestads will be visiting in October, a discipleship class for those interested in long term missionary service will begin in September, and the International Student sponsorship program will be getting into full swing this month.
