"The Glory of Sons is Their Fathers. "  Proverbs 17:6
What a great verse!  But dads, how did you feel when you first held that tiny bundle of joy that is your son?  Did reality hit you alongside the head with a brick?  Chances are you felt overwhelmed and inadequate.  I remember feeling a tremendous responsibility settle on my shoulders.
Chances are, however, that you've relaxed a bit since your son was born.  But just how much can you relax?  You can't!  Never forget that the world is at his elbow, on the computer screen, at school, on the billboard, on TV, the movies.  Understand that if you don't protect, teach, and validate your son, the world will.  An involved father gives weight to his son's life.  Sons can't raise themselves, they need time and attention.  A father must equip his sons with the tools needed to tackle the most important issues in life.   As a father you have the lead role in shaping your son's future.  Your presence or lack thereof has no rival when it comes to the shaping of the crucial beginnings of your son's life.
For a son, a Dad is and always will be a powerful reality.  When Jesus was baptized, God stated, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I'm well pleased."  If the Son of Man needed that affirmation (I love you, I'm proud of you) to continue his work, how much more does your son need to hear it?  As you spend time with your son, intertwine these affirmations into the conversation.
Always remember that every son wants to be like his father.  Your job is to live a life worth emulating.  It's not easy in the pressure cooker of modern life to live in such a way that your life is compelling to your son.  He will constantly observe the choices you make, the way you react when someone cuts you off in traffic, how you interact with women, and how you handle the moral dilemmas of life.  In your responses, he must see a life worth emulating.
In addition to good character, your son needs specific instructions on life from you.  Ask yourself, "What essential information does my son need to have when he "launches" into the world?"  What didn't you know that hurt you or had to be learned the hard way?   What knowledge does your son need  concerning God, manhood, women, money, social skills, or work ethic before he leaves home?
Lastly, how does God view your job as a father?  Did God first make the president, the governor, or the head minister?  No, God first made a husband and father, which makes your job the highest office in the land.  Never forget that you are responsible for raising up the next generation of spiritual leaders.

Christianity Today
You know what drives me crazy? Do you want to know one of the things about this whole "Christianity thing" that makes me nuts? Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of things that I might change...if only I were in charge! But one of the major things that drives me crazy about this whole "being like Jesus thing," is that each and every strong believer in Jesus (that I have ever been around) is completely and totally unique. Okay, not completely...they all have Jesus in common, but other than that, the differences are astounding. I mean, come on. Wouldn't it be a lot easier if we were all to end up looking, acting, and thinking exactly the same? I mean God is One God, One Lord, One Spirit, and yet God's Oneness is manifested in unlimited ways through His followers. It is quite annoying! It makes it really hard for me to look at the people around me and judge whether they are really doing what God wants them to be doing. It also makes it harder for me to compare myself with others to make sure that when all is said and done, I have more jewels in my crown than them! I really just don't get it. How can people, who are completely different in almost every way, still please God?
And yet scripture, time and time again, shows me that this is possible. Just look at the disciples. They couldn't have been more different from each other-constantly fighting and disagreeing. Or, take John the Baptist and Jesus' cousins, no less. I mean come on, John was a weird dude-eating bugs...dressing in camel skins...calling religious people names...telling all people that they needed to repent. He made it a point to totally separate himself out from the world around him. Then along comes Jesus who does things differently. In fact, he does things so differently that he is accused of being a drunk and a glutton. He is partying with sinners and tax collectors, and turning water into wine. These two could not have been more different. They were so different in fact, that at one point John sends some of his guys to Jesus to find out if he made a mistake when earlier he pronounced Jesus as Messiah. But Jesus' reaction is something we can all learn from. He doesn't rebuke John, or make fun of him, or get angry. Instead he says, "look at the fruit of what I am doing, then there won't be any doubt."
So what can we learn from this? A couple of things stand out to me. First, God has created us all in different ways and has set us on different paths of life. There are not going to be any "cookie-cutter" Christians. Second, God can be just as pleased with the way you live for Him as He is with the way I live for Him, or the way the "Super Christians" we know live for Him. We are not in a competition, but in unique relationships with the Infinite God of the universe. Sometimes, we need to remember this when we get frustrated that others are just not getting this whole "Christianity" thing right. Other times we need to remember this when we compare ourselves to those around us, and think, "God just can't be happy with me because I don't do it like ________." God did not create you or me individually so that we can be transformed into the likeness of each other, but He did so in order that we can be transformed into the image of His Son-His Glorious, Eternal, Unfathomable, Creative, Incredible Son. All the variety we see around us only scratches the surface of the infinite character of our Lord. While it may make me a bit crazy at times, I guess, when I am honest, I wouldn't want it any other way.

Living Free Recovery Center
Making an Impact
The recovery center started February 1, 2008, and since that time, 100+ men have come through the program.  It has been amazing to watch Christ move; many lives have been forever changed, and countless men have eternally been impacted.  Over 50 first-time decisions have taken place as a result of this ministry, and not only have the residents been impacted, but their families have as well.  The Living Free Recovery Center has impacted our community in a powerful way and gained respect from judges, lawyers, probation officers, and local church families.  We continue to reach those lost to addiction and dysfunctional lifestyles, teaching them the Gospel, showing them love, and leading them to the Truth.  Overall, the Living Free Ministry has easily impacted hundreds of lives, and we want to thank all of you for your support and prayers.  Some of the men have stayed sober and have gone on to lead successful lives.  Others have had setbacks, but in the end, seeds have been planted.  As the scriptures say in Isaiah, "When the Word of God goes out it will not come back void."  This ministry not only preaches the Gospel at the center, but has done countless jail visits, hospital visits, and "cold calls" on the streets.  It certainly can be a tough and heart-breaking ministry at times.  However, when a life is changed,
it is all worth it.  Living Free is being utilized by God, and changing one life at a time.  Keep us covered in prayer.  God bless you all!

International Initiatives
The following is from the leader of a short-term team that worked with the Ridgleys in Thailand:
I had the privilege of meeting the Ridgleys on a mission trip I took to Thailand this summer. I am in charge of the college ministry at my church and every summer we take college students on trips and expose them to missionaries and opportunities that are available to them in different parts of the world.
We had the privilege of Walter taking our team up into the mountains of Thailand. What an opportunity to see the work that God has done through this couple. It is evident that God has used them in a mighty way. We had the privilege of being a part of two worship services in two different villages. We worshiped with one man that was the first believer in his village!  This time in the mountains had a powerful impact on our students. They saw first-hand how God has used Walter in the lives of these tribal people. God has begun a mighty work in those villages!
During our week in the mountains, Walter took time to sit and share what God has taught him as he has lived among these people. I wish I had a picture of our students and how interested they were in EVERY story he told. He was very gracious to give our students so much of his time.
I want to say thanks for believing in Walter and Jeannette, your prayers and support have made a difference in the lives of the Thai people living in the mountains of Wieng Heng. Well, let's just say, "Eternity will be different because you have been praying and supporting this couple to go and preach the gospel to the ends of the earth." Our students will never forget their week up in the mountains of Thailand and how they watched and saw Thai men and women that have left their Buddhist background to become believers in Jesus!
Our time with the Ridgleys didn't end with the one week in the mountains, they continued to invite us into their home over the course of our 6 weeks in Thailand and shared more stories. We had the privilege of meeting Jeannette and hearing her story and her heart for the world. We consider it an honor and privilege to have just been able to meet and interact with this dedicated couple.
Thanks again for your investment in advancing the Kingdom. Eternity will be different because of your investment!
Blessed beyond measure,
Linda Mohlman

Youth Ministries
Due to the large number of service projects that the youth group is participating in (a minimum of three per month), we are depleting our supply of gardening tools.  If you have any yard work or gardening tools that you would be willing to donate, we can put them to work!  Items we need include, but are not limited to: shovels (all types), rakes, garden hoes, garden rakes, leaf rakes, hedge trimmers (electric or manual), chain saws (electric or gas), leaf blowers, wheel barrows, etc.  Any and all gardening tools are welcome!  Tools can be dropped off at the church during office hours, or during services on Sunday mornings (in the Upper Room, Room 201 upstairs).  If you are unable to drop off the tools, we will pick them up. Call Jeff at the Church Office at 726-5616.
Also, if you know anybody who has a foosball table or a ping pong table that needs a new home, we can promise it lots of love and use in the youth group!  We will gladly pick up any game tables that are donated, and be forever grateful!!
