Politically Correct Christmas Wishes
Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral, celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2009, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great (not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country or is the only "AMERICA" in the Western Hemisphere), and without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, or sexual preference of the wishee. By accepting this greeting, you are accepting the following: This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise of the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others, and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year, or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher. Doesn't it make you feel a little ill when you see our government officials lighting the "Holiday Tree" and wishing Americans "Happy Holidays?" They are driven to be politically correct. You know, they are practicing 'freedom from religion!' This season, let's go equally overboard putting Jesus Christ back into His birthday celebration! The Kruegers wish you a Merry CHRISTmas! Merry Christmas Sing-a-Long December 13, 2009 As we have been saying for several weeks now...this is a "cooperative effort" Christian celebration of the birth of our Savior and King, meaning each person attending will have an active role in making this event even more meaningful, and here's how it works... Regarding the food menu: The main dish, bread, beverages, and table service will all be provided. We are asking each family attending to provide a "carry-in" of salads and desserts to round out the menu. However, we are aware that not everyone can participate in this way so we do have a plan-B. (Please see ticket price adjustments.) And now take a look at the planned program! Pioneer members of FCC, the multi-talented, 4-generation, Hinton family with Ginger, JeanAnn, LynAnne, and Alyssa will headline this event with special music, interpretive dance, and of course, the sing-a-long. Former FCC Senior Minister Dick Osness, and wife Nora (although retired from active ministry), are working harder than ever for the kingdom. Dick and Nora will lead our Scripture/prayer service. Everyone's favorite baritone, Russ Cropley, is enjoying much improved health these days and has agreed to sing for us. Welcome back Russ! And, no fellowship event would be complete without a few surprises!
Date: Sunday, December 13 Time: 4 pm Location: Desert Lakes Clubhouse $4.00 per person, plus 1 side dish per family $6.00 each if not bringing a side dish
Tickets available next Sunday, December 6 (only) in the Main Lobby of FCC. Directions and detailed menu information will appear on your tickets. Thank you! -Eva Elzey 210-1868
Note: "carry-in" is Midwest-speak for potluck...

Southwestern Christian School "It's the most wonderful time of the year!" How many times have you heard this saying over the years? I agree. It is the most wonderful time of the year. It's a time to remember God's gift to us, the innocent baby Jesus. It's a time to think of the needs of others and to serve others with the love of Christ. The SWCS staff, students, and families would like to thank you for your support of our ministry at First Christian Church. We ask you to join us in prayer for our church, all of it's ministries, and how we can best serve our Lord here in Yuma and beyond. I would also like to remind you that December is your last opportunity to make YES and STAY donations for the 2009 tax year. Many families have been blessed by the donations made through these organizations. Often these incoming donations allow a child to continue with their Christian education at SWCS. If you are interested in finding out how you can bless a child, as well as receive a dollar-for-dollar write off on your Arizona state taxes and a deduction on your federal taxes, please go to www.fccyuma.org and find the link to Southwestern Christian School. We have a link to the YES organization. On the YES website, you can also find a link to the AEA Credit Union and information on how you can obtain an interest free loan through April 2010. This is available to make donating easier for you. You can contact our school office for further explanation of the benefits of these programs. Remember, in order to receive credit on your 2009 taxes, all donations have be postmarked by December 31, 2009. As you enjoy this Christmas season, remember, Jesus is the reason for the season, and more importantly, share His good news with others! Invite a friend, family member, or neighbor to join you for church. May God bless you and your family this Christmas season! In Christ, Debbie Stewart Principal |

Opportunity to Serve International Students Twenty-three students from several countries were welcomed into homes for Thanksgiving dinner by people from FCC. I want to thank all of you who shared your gift of hospitality and Beth Johnson who worked long hours to get students and hosts matched. The International Student Department at AWC has a need and they have asked if members of the community here at FCC can help. Some of the students will arrive for the spring semester before the dorms open on January 7. They will be arriving January 4-6 and will need housing for those dates. If you are interested in having a student from another country in your home for a few days, please call Beth Johnson at 503-4216 or see me or Beth at the kiosk in the lobby on Sunday morning. We need to let the people at the college know by Monday, December 7. We will be continuing to match up long-term sponsors with students. Again see or call Beth Johnson.
Christmas Shoe Boxes for Niņo's de Baja The response to our shoe box Christmas gifts for Niņos de Baja has been incredible. Over 160 boxes have been given out. Many were returned the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Just a reminder, the rest need to be returned this Sunday, December 6. They will be taken to Mexico next week so the directors at the Rancho will have plenty of time to distribute them. These boxes of treasures are all the Christmas some children will have. Ken and Peggy Reynolds have been the guiding lights behind this project since it's inception over 20 years ago. Their dedication and your generosity is much appreciated.
Holiday Needs at Crossroads Mission The holidays are a busy time at Crossroads Mission. For their three days of Christmas, December 23-25, they need donations of turkeys, hams, canned foods and volunteers to serve. Call Barbara at 726-0491, ext 17 for more information or to volunteer.

Children's Ministries Rick Keeling, Children's Minister Les Gompert, Associate Children's Minister
Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14
The FCC Children's Ministries Team firmly believes the best place, by far, for children to learn of their Savior and grow in faith is in the home with believing families. That being said, Jesus established the church as a body and gave various gifts to be shared. Throughout the week, we offer a variety of times where children can come and fellowship, learn, and worship.
Wednesdays Wednesday nights at 7:00 pm is our Faith Weaver Friends program where kids learn in a fun way through crafts, stories, snacks, and games. So, come, check us out! If you've always just come at one particular time, why not spread your wings a little and try something new this week? There are numerous adult Bible classes or worship times that correspond with all of our times.
Saturdays At 6:00 pm (during Twenty4/7), children ages 3 through (?) have an opportunity to worship and praise. From 6:30-7:15 pm, they will have class time with a Bible lesson and crafts.
Sundays Each Sunday at 9:30 am, pre-K through K have their worship in "Praise Time" with singing, worship, and Bible story time. Grades 1-5 are in Sunday School classes, then between services they switch! The little guys go downstairs, and the elementary kids take over the Kid Zone Room. During the 11:00 service, the elementary kids have their praise and worship time while the pre-K & Ks have their Sunday School classes. |
