Never in the history of FCC have two missionary families, sent out by the church, been home on furlough at the same time.  The main reason for this was that for over 20 years the Ridgleys were the only family sent to the mission field by this church.  Now, we have not only the Ridgleys but DeeDee Baumgarner, the Courtneys and the Robertsons.  The Ridgley family of North Burma Christian Mission in Thailand and the Robertson family of Mt. View International School in Indonesia are now in the U.S.  Linda Stanton of Kulpahar Kids Home in India, is also currently on furlough.  Because her mother now lives in Yuma she spends a large part of her time here.
The Mission Ministry Team thought having all these people in Yuma was too good of a chance to pass up.  We will be highlighting these and other ministries the weekend of July 18 and 19.  We have also invited representatives of ministries close by to come down.  Diana Lawrence of Arizona Reservation Ministries, Joe and Rosie Nix of Niņos de Baja and Ruth and Ona Liles, former teachers at Mt. View School in Indonesia and parents of John Liles will all be our guests that weekend.  Iberoamerican Ministries, The Living Free Recovery Center, Tumaini International Ministries, the International Student Outreach to AWC, and The Persecuted Church will also be represented.
These ministries and others will have booths set up in the east end of the Main Lobby with information about each. There will be sign-up sheets for fall trips to Globe to work with ARM.  There will be opportunities to sponsor an international student who attends AWC, and adopt children who are being served by Tumaini, Kulpahar and Niņos de Baja.
Each service on Saturday evening and Sunday morning will begin with a parade of flags representing FCC's work around the world.  Walter Ridgley will bring a timely message.  For once, Yuma is going to be THE PLACE TO BE in the middle of July.  See you then!

[The following article is 77 years old]
If you want to find out my origin and my place in the realm of religion, read the New Testament.  I am a command of God and am a specific act.  One of God's great preachers became distinguished by associating himself with me.  Those who refused to obey me rejected the counsel of God against themselves.  My associates in the days of John were: confession of sins, repentance and forgiveness of sins.  Jesus, the divine Son of God, recognized my place and fulfilled all righteousness by obeying me (Matthew 3:15).  After His resurrection from the dead and after He received all authority in heaven and in earth, He commanded His Apostles to teach all nations and administer me to them the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.  To obey me, one must go to the water (Acts 8:36), where there is much water (John 3:23), down into the water (Acts 8:38).  I am a symbol of death, of burial and resurrection.  When you behold me you behold in symbol the death of Christ, His burial, and His resurrection from the grave.  You will also see your own death to sin, your burial with Christ and your resurrection with Him in this act (Romans 6:3-5; Colossians 2:12).  Only those who obey me from the heart, of their own free will and accord, have really obeyed this act (Romans 6:16-19).  I equal immersion and emersion.  I represent both a burial and resurrection.  Having been buried with Christ in a watery grave and having been raised, one comes up out of the water and in this act he has had his body washed with water (Acts 22:16; Hebrews 10:22).  In obeying me you clothe yourself with Christ (Galatians 3:26-27) you are added to him (Acts 2:41; 10:48); you receive the remission of sins (Acts 2:37-38; 22:16), you come into the relationship of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19-20) and you get salvation (Mark 16:15-16).  Remember that I am a command of Jesus Christ and that He says, "If you love me you will keep my commandment."  You dare not substitute something else for me.  I am a specific act.  In faith you give your intelligence to Christ; and in repentance you give your affection, and in obeying me, you give your will and your body to Christ.  He wants the whole body.  It must be surrendered, buried and raised in His likeness.
My Name Is Baptism.

Is it just me or is it hotter than all get out these days?  And is it not as wet?  During my daily jog at noontime, and throughout these hot and humid days, I find that my energy is sapped when I am not navigating a course from one air-conditioned location to another!  Oh well.  This is Yuma!  And while you may find yourself with less energy these days, like I do, we ought all to find the energy that comes from a passion for doing something good and holy.
At Twenty4/7, we are about to finish our Perfected series in Colossians and then will begin a few nights of our SNL series which is our repository for "hot topics" such as homosexuality, pornography, divorce, and other such issues of our day.  Here is where I need your help.  In August, Twenty4/7 is going to help make an ongoing stand to combat abortion in our city.  Besides the prayer, financial, and material support that we will be seeking, we are also looking for individuals and families to consider being real help to pregnant mothers and their to-be-born children.  Are you interested in encouraging a single, pregnant mother?  Are you willing to come alongside a young pregnant mom and help her to see that the baby she carries is precious?  Are you willing to possibly consider and pray about being a family who can adopt one of these babies so that they would have a chance at life?  Those are the areas where I am asking for help.
What a glorious opportunity we have to impact the life of the unborn.  If any of this stirs you deeply within your heart, and you sense God is leading you to help, please call me at the church office or email me at paul@twenty47.org.  I can't think of a greater way for us as a church to spend our summer than by such an endeavor to protect the precious life that has been granted to us by God.  I hope to hear from you soon... very soon.
With Passion,
Paul Mondragon, Media Minister

My wife and I like to take our dog for walks. Okay, my wife likes to, I want to be with her, and so we take the dog on walks.  We have a great dog.  His name is Tyson.  He is what the Humane Society labels a shepherd/lab mix, which simply means that they have no idea what his lineage is.  Like I said, he is a great dog.  Lately I have been learning a lot of lessons from him and if you will let me, I would like to share some of those with you over the next few months.
This month I want to tell you about one important lesson that I learned and am learning.  Tyson is a wonderful dog, but he is also a little bit on the crazy side.  What I mean is that when we are on walks and he sees another dog (or perhaps a person, or maybe even a trash bag!) he has, on occasion, lost his mind. He barks, gets his hackles up, pulls at his leash; and no amount of yelling, threatening, or punishment seems to get him out of it.  The only thing we can do is hold on to the leash and ride it out until whatever is upsetting him is out of view (or he has checked it out and is certain that he can take it in a fight if he had to).
My wife and I do all that we can to protect him, to help him understand that he is in no danger, and to convince him to just trust us to take care of any situation.  The last time we were on our walk, Tyson lost his mind again.  I became frustrated with him, and did all I could (without hurting him) to get him to stop. Again to no avail.  My hope is that one day, we can go on walks and this type of thing won't happen-that he can walk in peace and trust in us to take care of him.
The Lesson?  In my life, there are many times when I become scared, agitated, or angry and try to take matters into my own hands.  I want to do all I can to protect myself, those I love, and yes, to get revenge. Too often, I forget that God, my Master, is the only one who can truly take care of me.  So, I go crazy pulling at my leash, so focused on the issue in front of me that I can't see God there to handle it.  I am reminded of Psalm 33:17-22.  Take a second to read it.
No matter what strength I have, it is God's strength that will save me.  His eyes are always on me, and He is good.  He is trustworthy and worthy of my praise and my obedience.  Unlike me, He is a perfect Master, wanting only good.  Unlike my dog, I am a person created in the very image of my God.  I need to remember this often.  My prayer is that I, too, can learn to walk in peace and trust God to take care of me.

Thank You's
Dear FCC Staff and Members,
We want to thank you all for your help and support throughout the funeral for our dad, Bill Laguna.  We truly appreciate everyone who was involved in making a very difficult day much easier for us.  Thank you, Darrin and Paul, for all you did to make the service perfect.  We couldn't have asked for more.  Thanks to the FCC Youth Group who willingly served in so many ways.  You guys are the best!  Special thanks to Jeff Elzey for making Dad's service so personal.  Thank you for keeping it upbeat and truly a celebration of life.  We can't begin to thank you enough!
With love and thanks,
Sherri Elzey and Billy Laguna

Recently I had the privilege if working with members
of the FCC Youth Group.  If you ever have the opportunity to work with this group you will be blessed as I was.  After the memorial service for Bill Laguna (Sherri Elzey's father) our bereavement committee served lunch for the family and friends. The FCC Youth Group Members furnished desserts, assisted in the serving, and clean-up afterwards. Their help was appreciated, and it was a pleasure to work with them. They made FCC, Sherri, and Jeff, proud.
In His Service,
Ann Autrey, Bereavement Committee
SWCS LogoSouthwestern Christian School
On Thursday, May 28, Southwestern Christian School had the priviledge of graduating 14 eighth grade students to the ninth grade.  This is a culminating event in our calendar year.  For these students, it marks the end of their time at SWCS and the new adventure of starting high school.  Our prayer for our graduates is that each one will move forward boldly in service to God.  May they follow Christ and serve Him every day of their lives.  May they be the Christian leaders our world is needing.  Please join our staff and families as we pray for our graduates and our incoming students for the new school year.  Your prayers are coveted by our staff.  Thank you for your support and help throughout this past school year! May God bless you and your family!

There is no possible way to thank everybody who helped with Sherri's dad's funeral.  We are humbled and grateful for everything that was done for us by our amazing church family here at FCC.  Thank you so much; we appreciate all that everybody did!
A huge, huge "thank you" to all of the youth coaches and students who helped "cover the bases" for me while we were on vacation in Alaska.  I very much appreciate your sacrifice!  We made the most of our time in Alaska and had a great trip, partially due to the fact that I did not have to worry about youth ministry because it was in such capable hands.  Thank you all!

Don't forget, every Tuesday night is Sports Night from 6:30 to 8:00 for middle school through high school.  Bring a friend and come hang out with us!

Please be praying for our summer camps to be safe and successful.  Middle school camp
is July 12 to 17, and high school camp is from July 20 to July 25.

There will be no Upper Room on Wednesday night, July 22nd.  We'll see you on the 29th!
