Faced with growing criticism, the pharmaceutical industry adopted a new code of ethics in the last year. Does the self-policing policy increase consumer safety, improve the industry's relationship with doctors and ultimately stem legislation?

Tonight at 7:00 p.m. on WFMZ-TV 69, The American Law Journal addresses"A New Pharma Code of Ethics: Is It Enough?" Attorney Host Christopher Naughton welcomes attorneys Stephen A. Sheller of Sheller P.C., Raymond M. Williams of DLA Piper and former pharmaceutical marketing executive Peter Rost, M.D

The new code, among other things, limits gifts to doctors, imposes stricter speaking/consulting arrangements, transparency, and requires more stringent training of sales reps.

"Pharmaceutical companies are reassessing their marketing techniques," says Williams. "It is as much about negative perception as it is about policy."

"The American public doesn't trust drug companies," says Rost, "and they have to do more than rehash old guidelines."

This program was taped at Drexel University before the recent $2.3 billion Pfizer settlement.  Tune in October 12 at 7pm for a live, one hour discussion on this record settlement.
