NEWS & UPDATES
YMCA KIM Food Drive

Food Drive
The 11th annual YMCA Calgary Kids In Motion and Day Camp Food Drive will take place the week of August 16.

The YMCA Kids in Motion (KIM) program is designed to encourage youth, ages nine to 12, to work together, develop a sense of community responsibility and team work.

Kids in our YMCA daycamps will be delivering 15,000 flyers and bags to homes in 15 communities around the city. If you receive a flyer during this week, please support the food drive by leaving a donation on your doorstep for pick-up by the kids. If you do not receive a flyer but would still like to support this worthy cause, you can do so by bringing a donation to any YMCA branch between August 13-19.

KIM is a summer outreach program that invites kids to volunteer in meaningful projects such as mural painting, community gardens and food drives in their own neighbourhoods. In return for their work, the kids enjoy recreational activities like swimming, outdoor activities and visits to local attractions.

STRONG KIDS NEWS & EVENTS
The Strong Kids Campaign,
YMCA's charity, helps Calgary kids and families in need take part in YMCA programs & services.
Strong Kids Q&A
Question: If my child needs help but all of the Strong Kids Campaign dollars have been given to other children, will he be turned away?
Answer: No child is ever turned away! In 2010, we aim to raise enough money to help 12,500 kids. If your child is number 12,501, no problem. We will find the money to help any and all children who need financial help to attend our programs, even if we have to turn to our operating budget to do so.

Strong Kids Quote
"Joseph, my middle son, described camp as "an initiation into manhood" and he hasn't been the same since, shifting from drugs and poor choices to a life of purpose and direction."

Strong Kids Campaign Events
YMCA staff and volunteers organized and participated in three Strong Kids Campaign events at Shawnessy YMCA, along with many generous Calgarians. Thanks to their amazing efforts, 30 more kids who wants to be in a YMCA class or camp won't be held back because of finances.

A hot air balloon ride raffle raised over $800; a Zumba class with 25 energetic participants rasied over $400; and an Aquatics toonie/loonie dive (participants threw coins into the pool and instructors dived for them) raised over $600.
