Love Lessons 101
No matter how many gifted teachers, patient friends, or inspirational leaders impart their words of wisdom, some lessons only truly resonate when revealed to us by our dogs.
After all, that unique exchange of knowledge and connection across species is part of what makes the human-canine bond so remarkable. So as this month of love draws to a close, we bring to you some of our favorite lessons learned, passed on to us by our pups (compliments of our readers, more will be revealed in our blog over the next few weeks):
"How to live with compassion... and joy and to see the good in all things... How to look at the bright side of life... and how to be humble."
"I have learned to take each day as it comes and try to focus on the moment I'm in. I have learned to forget about past failures and focus on the successes of the day. I have learned to keep trying."
"I have learned patience, unconditional love and sharing. I have learned the joy of jumping, smiling, playing and greeting my friends. I have learned how very wonderful it is to live in the moment. I have learned the depth of despair when I have lost my companion. I have learned how to love and give again."
"Loyalty beyond reason, love with no bounds, pride without prejudice and to enjoy a good lick and ignore the odd hair in my dinner because it was so incredibly worth it!!"
"Live in the moment. Acceptance of others. Patience... and honoring the memories of those who have died."

"You Are My Smile Machine!"
And how to thank these animals that understand a mere few words of English?
Most of us feel compelled, through our actions, to show our pups how much we value all that they bring to our lives: We make sure to keep them healthy and safe, provide as much mental and physical stimulation as we can, and at all times treat them with the care and respect they deserve. Some of us have even gone so far as to write a letter to our dogs. A few excerpts from our readers:
"Thank you for keeping me grounded to the natural world. You are a minimalist. The basics that you live by are the basics that we humans actually need."
"Thank you for also teaching me that you have a language with other dogs that I cannot always understand... still showing me that I have and always will have lots to learn."
"Thank you for all the love you give. You give me a reason to keep on going."
"Thank you for all that you do. I can never express how much you mean to me and how much you have taught me."
