Interfaith Health Screening on Sunday
The Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) and the Council of Islamic Organizations of Michigan (CIOM) will offer a free health screening on Sunday, Nov. 7 at the HUDA Clinic. Jewish and Muslim physicians and health care providers will join together that day to provide free health screenings from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., at the Muslim Center Mosque and Community Center, 1605 W. Davison Avenue, in Detroit.
The Interfaith Health Fair will provide free medical screenings for residents of Detroit. Clients who attend the clinic will be able to visit screening stations for the detection of a variety of significant medical conditions. Protocols will be in place for referrals and, if necessary, urgent treatment. The clinic will feature education stations with informational literature, and social workers will be on hand to assist with referrals to direct service agencies. Clients who attend the clinic will also receive a snack provided through the Muslim Center's soup kitchen. If possible, clients should be pre-registered for the program, but the Interfaith Health Fair will accommodate walk-ins.
The health fair is part of "Fighting Poverty with Faith," a nationwide effort to reduce poverty by 50 percent over the next 10 years, co-chaired by the Jewish Council for Public Affairs (JCPA), Catholic Charities USA (CCUSA) and the National Council of Churches in Christ (NCC). The DTE Energy Foundation, Great Lakes Health Plan and Henry Ford Health System are sponsoring the clinic.
