What Not to do for Dry Skin!
This was a quote from a local dermatologist's newsletter this summer:
"When there is no rash - just dry skin - I suggest that patients ue an intensive regimen to moisturize and protect their skin. Here is how it works: After your shower, but before you dry off, apply a thin coat of a heavy ointment such as Vaseline... to your wet skin."
Folks, this is wrong & dangerous on so many different levels:
1. What you put on your body is as important as what you put in your body.
2. Vaseline or any lotion/cream using a mineral oil base will interfere with the body's hormonal system... yes, I'm talking PMS, hot flashes, mood swings.
3. Mineral oil is what's called a Xenoestrogen, which is an "estrogen mimic" - a chemical structure which is recognized by the body as an estrogen. It cannot, however, complete the hormonal messaging activity and therefore creates negative effects, any of which can cause cancer.
4. Other estrogen mimics are petroleum, coal and tar related products such as plastics, fertilizers, cleaning products, petrochemicals such as pesticide residue.
5. Most Importantly, imbalanced estrogens in women can cause breast, ovarian, cervical or uterine cancers. Excessive estrogen in men can cause breast or prostate cancer.
