Hypoglycemia - Hidden Cause For Weight Gain
Hypoglycemia is a condition when blood sugar levels drop too low, typically below 50 mg/dl. Symptoms of this condition might include:
After a meal, glucose (sugar) molecules are absorbed into the bloodstream and carried into the cells where they are used for energy. Insulin is secreted from the pancreas to help the glucose enter the cells. Sugar and processed foods are quickly absorbed in the body, resulting in a rapid elevation in blood sugar, stimulating a coresponding excessive elevation of insulin levels. Stressing the pancreas in this manner can cause low and high blood sugar spikes throughout the day. Hypoglycemia is a perfect setup for diabetes.
In addition, hypoglycemia stimulates the fat enzyme LPL (lipoprotein lipase) which increases fat storage. So when you stimulate insulin, you stimulate fat!
