I just returned from a
3-day retreat in Sedona where I unplugged from everything and was completely by
myself, except of course God and my guides which
was absolutely the point. I have not done this for a very long time and I
am so enthusiastic about the results I want to share them with you.
Sometimes we just need
to create a blank slate on which to Vision. It is often difficult in our
day-to-day routine to see the big picture of our lives. Even when we get the
opportunity to have some down time there are still phone calls, e-mails,
errands and the whirling dervish mind that is constantly reminding us of all
the things we need to do.
Giving yourself
permission to unplug from everything, even the ones you love, for a short period
of time is nothing less than renewing. It helps you to notice where it is you
have been and where you would like to go. It lets you become connected again to
the DIVINITY THAT LIVES WITHIN. You know, that small subtle voice that we often
ignore. When it is just you and God - it is impossible to ignore. This is
the beauty, because when you start listening to it, your world blooms with colorful
ideas of how to live better; like a new garden, the possibilities are born
again.
I realize some of us
just do not have 3 days to get on a plane and go somewhere - that is OK. In
fact, I had a goal of going on a personal retreat for the last 3 years and I
finally achieved it. That said, you could take a mini-break anytime where you
get to decide the when and where of it. It could be a day spent alone on your
favorite mountain or an afternoon at the beach or even a few hours in your
garden. Here are some suggestions about how to create your best mini-retreat:
1.
Set the day
and the amount of time you are committed to, prior
to starting.
2.
Turn all
phones off or better yet leave them
behind.
3.
Give
yourself permission to let go of any agendas.
4.
Set an
intention to be fully present with your Self and God.
5.
Do not bring
any distractions: books, music, definitely
not your laptop.
6.
Bring a
pen and pad to write on. You may have awarenesses, ideas and even epiphanies.
You can record these. If you do not, this is OK too. Remember no agenda.
Know that you will
emerge renewed and restored, ready to rejoin the world, perhaps just a little
bit more connected to the Divine in you. Take a mini-retreat often and you will
find your entire perspective changes to one of awe and gratitude that you get to
live this amazing life. You may even notice how much more present you are for
everyone you love and everything you are creating. You will most certainly
realize that you are not alone in your creations as you walk always with the Divine in you.
