From the StillPointe Staff April 9, 2010
Tree Alone
 Dear Patients and Friends:
Life is good when we have an early spring! The sunlight and warm weather give us the energy to tackle new projects and play outside. We are enjoying that energy at StillPointe this month with lots of April activity. Welcome back to Dr. Jen Bestick who will be helping us part-time on Fridays and Saturdays, plus vacation coverage. See her story below. We also have a great new class on April 15th - "DIY Stress Reduction" -  with Rebecca and SarahErin. They will teach you how to use many great tools such as foam rollers for exercise and relaxation.
We are also beginning a new computerized management system this month. Please bear with us as we ask you to complete some different paperwork. While we may have a few bugs getting it started, it will help us meet new guidelines for electronic medical records and create much more efficiency in our billing, scheduling and patient care. We hope to be almost paperless by the end of the year and save a few trees in honor of Earth Day this month!
Lots of patients have been mentioning that they feel more "achy" lately and wonder if they have fibromyalgia. Often the achiness is more apparent during the change of seasons or in wet conditions. Sometimes this is a result of systemic yeast, mold or candida that tend to proliferate in wet or damp conditions. One great way to help you find the cause of this is through Electrodermal Screening (EDS). As many of you know, this is a non-invasive way to see if systems of your body are out of balance, and to make corrections with diet, supplements or homeopathic remedies. During the month of April you can receive a $10.00 discount on your initial EDS screening, so take advantage of this offer to do a bit of "spring cleaning" for your health.
Along with the nice weather, you will probably find yourself on your feet more, so our topic of the month is FEET!  See the article below and take advantage of our free foot scan and we hope you participate in our foot photo contest.  You might win an Apple iPad or a half-hour massage or reflexology session.  Show us your feet!
And "go green for Earth Day!  We have some great new flavors available in the "Dynamic Greens" (Strawberry-Kiwi, Chocolate!!). We are featuring this product at 15% off during the month of April and have samples available in the office. See product information below.
Check out our calendar of events and screenings (Web Site or on Facebook) and we hope you will join our fan page on Facebook. We are having fun with it and appreciate the nice comments and testimonials. Have a wonderful April.
As always, we greatly appreciate your patronage and referrals! Thanks for choosing StillPointe for your healthcare. If you have any questions on our products, services or upcoming events, please visit our website or contact us.

Welcome Dr. Jen Bestick.

Dr. Jen Bestick
Dr. Bestick

Dr. Jen Bestick is returning to StillPointe and will be providing Chiropractic care on a part-time basis, filling in on the Friday, Saturday and vacation schedules.  She received her Bachelor of Science degree from St. Cloud State University and her Doctorate of Chiropractic from Northwestern Health Sciences University.  Her specialties include:  family wellness, sports-related injuries, preventative care and natural health.
"Natural health is a passion of mine and I enjoy sharing this with patients, giving them the tools and guidance to lead a healthier life.  I believe in the body's innate ability to heal itself, and the power of chiropractic adjustments to assist in this process."
CONDITION OF THE MONTH:
Your Feet . . . and Chiropractic Care.
Weight Bearing Feet    "Feet" and "chiropractic" are two words you don't often hear in the same sentence, but you should!  Chiropractors are trained to treat many different foot conditions.  Some of the most common foot problems include plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia, fallen arches, ankle pain, and foot pain.  Here are a few definitions:
Plantar fasciitis:  If you have pain on the bottom of your foot that gets worse after standing for a while and sometimes is quite painful just after stepping out of bed, you could have plantar fasciitis.  The tissues (plantar fascia) on the bottom of the feet become irritated and painful and can be quite intense.
Metatarsalgia:  General pain in the ball of the foot is called metatarsalgia.  It can be caused by overuse, unsupportive shoes, misalignment of the bones in the foot, and several other reasons.
Fallen Arches:  No, I'm not talking about the "Golden Arches."  The arch is a key element to your foot structure.  If there is no arch or a small arch, or in some cases a high arch, there can be problems.  Arch problems lead to pain in the foot, ankles, knees, hips, and lower back.  Your feet are your base of support and if the arches have fallen, then your support is gone.
Ankle Pain:  Ankle pain can be a result of fallen arches, ankle sprains or ankle valgus deformity (kind of like knock knees but for the ankles).  If not treated, they can lead to ankle instability.
Foot Pain:  This is a vague category.  Everything already mentioned fits here.  However, there are some foot conditions that are simply caused by misalignments in the bones of the foot, arthritis or other problems.  As chiropractors, we examine your foot, your lifestyle, your shoes, your lower back . . . whatever is needed to figure out the cause of your pain.
Another important thing to consider is what affect your feet have on the rest of your body.  As mentioned earlier, your feet are the foundation of your support.  If you weaken the foundation of a home, it puts the whole house at risk.  Your body is no different.  There are many times when patients come to us with low back pain and it turns out that the root of the problem is coming from an old ankle sprain or a flat arch.  So, when you think of feet, think of chiropractic.  If you or anyone you know is having foot symptoms, let us know!  Treating the whole body is important when the goal is to get you back to health.
We want to take a picture of your feet!
Do you have the cutest feet on the internet? What about the ugliest? Foot Levelers Logo
Either way, we want to see those toes!
In honor of Foot Awareness Month, Foot Levelers, is hosting an Ugliest/Prettiest Feet Contest and are asking their customers to participate.  So come in to StillPointe and get a free foot scan andCutest Feetwe will take a picture of your feet. Not only will you find out if your feet are affecting the rest of your body, but you can check out their new sandal products to give yourself the comfort and support needed to enjoy our upcoming summer. And the photo that will be submitted to their Facebook page could win you an Apple iPAD!  In addition, we will have a drawing for those who participate at StillPointe so you also have a chance to win a half-hour massage or reflexology session.
The contest ends April 30, 2010 and the winners will be announced May 3.  You must be 18 to enter, but the feet don't have to be yours.  They do, however, need to be human.  No purchase is required.  Winners will be selecteded by popularity based on the number of "likes" it receives on their site. For complete details, give us a call or stop in and "show us your feet!"  Click on the Foot Levelers logo above and see their "CAOS" line of sandals.
