Season's Greetings

"What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past, courage for the present, hope for the future. It is a fervent wish that every cup may overflow with blessings rich and eternal, and that every path may lead to peace."   Agnes M. Pharo

Dear Patients and Friends:
I recently received a holiday note from a good friend who has "adopted" three "Lost Boys" from Sudan. She writes that two of them are going home for the first time in many years. Sudanese renew their family ties each year at Christmas. It is the "umbilical cord" of their history, even if they are not physically together.  I really like that analogy as it binds family history together through the ages. This is the year to really embrace and enjoy your family, however you define it. We need each other more than ever.
Our holiday newsletter has lots of specials for you and YOUR family. Give the gift of health this year. We are particularly thankful for you and your family, and we love to serve your health needs. We have developed special packages with your budget in mind. This is also the year to support our community businesses. Some good friends have "closed up shop" which is sad for all of us. We want to remain vital and strong to serve you. You can support us by referring your family and friends, giving gift certificates, taking advantage of our service packages and by letting us be your natural health clinic of choice.
We look forward to your next visit.  If you have any questions on our products, services or upcoming events, please visit our website or contact either myself or Dr. Montag at dr.saetre@stillpointe.net or dr.tim@stillpointe.net

Have a wonderful holiday and blessed new year.

"SICK OF BEING SICK" By Dr. Saetre!
Dr. Saetre     I brag a bit about "never getting sick."   Well, I've just spent the last four days in bed with a sore throat, chills and the whole works. It is humbling and proves that it is good that I don't get sick often because I am not a good patient!  Actually it is good for your immune system to do its job by letting you get sick every so often. The key is to support your immune system so you can burn the "bugs" off in a few days. Getting sick will actually make you stronger, but you want to avoid continual stress on your immune system. Once a year is enough!  Here are some things you can do to prevent getting sick and what to do if you find yourself coming down with the "crud."
  •  Lots of water and REST. Doing too much when you are sick not only passes it on to others, but it takes longer to get over.
  • Take an immune support supplement during the winter or if your family and co-workers get sick. We carry several at StillPointe such as: Colostrum, Echinacea synergy, Sinuplex, Immucore, Essential Defense and others. We will be glad to help you pick the one right for you. We also carry formulas for children that are safe for coughs, colds and sinus congestion based on their age and weight.
  • A good multivitamin along with fish oil/omega 3 supplements keep you healthy year round.
  • Use Young living "Thieves" oil as a cleaner and immune support. We use it in the clinic to clean tables and hands. It is non-toxic and kills viruses, bacteria and germs. For information on Young Living oils, or to sign up to purchase online, go to stillpointe.younglivingworld.com. You can also access it from our website, by going to "services," aromatherapy and clicking on the link.
  • A naturopathic tip from Dr. Aberle: The 'Wet Sock' treatment.  I tried this and it seems to speed things up. Take a hot shower, or just get your feet very warm. Take some cotton socks and put them in cold water (or the freezer). Wring them out and put them on your warm feet, followed by a pair of wool socks on the top. Go to bed and in the morning, your socks will be dry and it is a hydrotherapy treatment that helps pull the toxins from your body. I also put thieves' oil on my feet before I did this for extra support. It is not uncomfortable if you are under warm blankets!
  • Get adjusted when you are sick to keep your nervous system balanced. It is okay to come in when you are sick because we want to support you during that time.
  • A good way to do a thorough evaluation of your immune system is to have an electrodermal screening (EDS). The immune system can be compromised by an overgrowth of bacteria, viral agents, mold/fungi, or parasites.  Through the EDS screening, we are able to test for these substances and come up with an individualized protocol to remedy the problem.  EDS can also be used to check to see what supplements work for you. We have many homeopathic remedies for cold/flu season, including a lymph drainer, virustat and bactestat. These are easy to use, inexpensive and really work to rid the body of "unfriendly bugs"!
  • Here's to you and your health this season!

NEW Blue Cross Policy on Massage Benefit.

Massage
Many of our BCBS clients have enjoyed a 30-minute massage as part of their chiropractic treatment. Unfortunately, BCBS has chosen to discontinue this benefit starting in January, 2009.  Many of you benefit greatly with a massage in conjunction with a chiropractic adjustment, so we have developed our own fee structure for this service on a cash-pay basis.
If you schedule a massage the SAME day as your chiropractic adjustment, we are able to consider it part of your treatment and reduce the price from our regular massage schedule for you. This is open to all of our insurance and cash chiropractic patients. You will also save five percent on tax, because we can charge the reduced "MN Care" tax of two percent instead of the regular seven percent as it is part of your treatment.
This will NOT be submitted to BCBS or any other insurance which means it saves us another eight percent if we don't have to go through our billing company (it will be denied anyway). We will pass this savings on to you.
As of January 1, 2009, cash-pay massage prices IN CONJUNCTION with a chiropractic treatment will be:
            - 30 minute   $29.00 +  $ .58 tax = $29.58
            - 60 minute   $54.00 + $1.08 tax = $55.08
Please note you will still have to pay your usual co-pay or deductible for your chiropractic adjustment, along with the massage fee at the new, reduced pricing as noted above. All fees must be paid at the time of service. If you participate in a flex plan, your massage fee can be submitted to your flex account.  If you have any questions about this BCBS benefit change and the new cash-pay fee structure in conjunction with your adjustment, please call our office for details.
