Dear BernieA NASTY LITTER BOX HABIT!

My name is Agnes and I love diving into the kitty litter box for a snack from time to time.  My Mom gets pretty upset with me when I get caught.  How can I make my Mom stop yelling at me about this?

Thanks,
Agnes

Dear Agnes,

Well this is not a really good habit and your Mom is just thinking about your health.  And while these little munchies may taste good to you, they are not good for you.

Your Mom should rearrange the cat box so that only the cat can get into it.  Sometimes placing the litter box up on a crate or shelf (if the cat is agile) is a quick fix.  Or your Mom should try putting a chain latch on the door of the room where the box and make it tight enough so that only the cat can squeeze through the opening.  If your Mom can time it right, she can try sprinkling Tabasco on the "items" to discourage you from chowing down.

And Agnes, the bottom line is, this is just plain rude.  You are invading the cat's private space.  Think about it...do you want him in YOUR dog house?  No?  Then stay out of his litter box!

Man, I can't believe I'm taking the cat's side on this one.

Important Facts to Prevent
"Claw Damage" and
Keep Your Pet's Feet Healthy

By Jon Bernstein, DVM

Claws are complex structures that are derived from modified skin tissue overlying bone of the end of the digit.  Claws serve many functions, including prehension, predation, aggression, defense, and locomotion.

Despite these attributes, claws are sometimes a cause for concern for the pet owner.  Many people have been "marked" by the sharp claws of a puppy or by a cat that pushed off or held on with extended claws.  Digging holes and scratching furniture are also commonly encountered problems.

There a number of things you can do to prevent CLAW DAMAGE.

OLYMPICS FEVER

Whenever it's time for the Olympics, I don't get to watch any cartoons.  But I do have to admit, I really do like speed skating.  I wanted to jump right in there and chase those guys all over the ring.  And I bet I could have caught one or two of them too!    And snowboarding looks like something I'd be really good at.  Why I bet I could beat that skateboarding Bulldog any day!

Mom's favorite is bobsledding but I'm not sure why she thinks she could even do it because she's afraid of heights, although she does drive pretty fast sometimes!  Paws down though, hockey is my game!  I like things that move really fast and I loved watching the US beat the Canadians...oh wait...they beat us didn't they?

WELL, with my black fur, silver is more becoming so I'm very happy with the silver medal and am really proud of all the U.S. athletes from the 2010 Olympics (even the ones that fell down).

Until next time (when I get to choose what to watch),

Peace out!
