Tails From The Squad
October 2009

Greetings!

Dawg Squad sends a huge shout out to all our friends, adopters, sponsors and volunteers who made our fourth annual Bowling for Collars a huge success!  We couldn't do what we do without you and with the money raised we can continue to help rescue more dogs, get them the medical attention they deserve and find them forever homes.  There aren't enough words to express how grateful we are to each and every one of you.  In the words of our Founder "YOU ROCK."

New this month - Ralphs Community Contribution Program, important details on fleas you don't want to miss and a heartfelt suggestion from Bernie about Halloween.

FLEAS

What You Should Know and What to do About It

by Dr. Bernstein

LOS ANGELES, CA - "My dog has fleas" is not solely an aid for tuning string instruments.  Unfortunately, it is a statement of fact for many Southern Californians.  These tiny insects are responsible for making the lives of pets and their owners miserable.  Fleas can cause irritation from a bite, but they are often responsible for more severe reactions. Dare I Say It?
No Custumes, Please!

Please Bernie....tell me what is wrong with humans?   Why do they put us through this humiliation every year??  Dogs do NOT like to dress up.  Well, maybe poodles do...but most of us do not!  I can't go through this again Bernie!   What should I do?

Beverly Hill's Chihuahua
 ~ Four Paws Down ~

Just because there are a bunch of cute dogs in a movie does NOT make it a good movie.

WHAT was Disney thinking with Beverly Hills Chihuahua?  Did the trailer show the dog fighting scenes?  Did the trailer show the coyote bringing in unwanted dogs from Mexico to the United States...yes a real coyote.

Did the trailer show all the hungry, sad, unwanted stray dogs in Mexico City?  NO!  Seriously, if I was a little kid who liked dogs I would have been bawling my eyes out in Scene Two.  Instead, I am just a very angry Rottweiler who would like to have a word or two with the people who made this movie.

Oh and of course the Doberman was the bad dog.   And don't even get me started on the people in the mansions in Beverly Hills who dress up their dogs and....I said don't get me started.

Go save a chihuahua or any other dog from the shelter with the money you would have spent on this movie.  I'm gonna go watch Kung Fu Panda again.  I need to get out of this bad mood.

Peace out!

 VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
  Stacy and Jeffrey
Super Stacy!

Don't you love the great new video of Bryce featured in this Month's newsletter? The video was shot and produced by our amazing Volunteer of the Month, Stacy!

Handsome Bryce was actually running around as a stray when he found Stacy and talked her into getting him off the streets and into The Squad.

In addition to rescuing dogs, filming them and turning them into video stars on YouTube and Facebook, Stacy is responsible for many of the great photographs featured on our website. She also organizes photo shoots, bake sales and other fundraisers to help pay for room and board for Bryce and the other dogs at the Squad. All this and she still manages to
keep her 'day job' as a flight attendant! In fact, Stacy is so dedicated to the Dawgs at the Squad that she'll often fly over to adoptions right after landing at the airport, even though she worked all night on the red eye.

The Dawg Squad could not exist without the support of wonderful volunteers like Stacy.

Thanks so much for all you do for the dawgs!

DOG OF THE MONTH

Bryce
Meet Bryce

The lovable, cuddly Pitbull Terrier who will let you do just about anything to him. He never objects.

Pull on his tail, ears, let small dogs chew on his face...it doesn't matter. He takes everything in with patience, acceptance and wag of his tail.
