My name is Max and my wife and I are having a baby in June. We have a wonderful 2 year old neutered male mixed breed and would like
some hints on how to integrate the baby into our family.
Sincerely,
Max
Dear Max,
So many people don't prepare their
dog for the arrival of a new baby and sometimes the dog can be very
upset by this "intrusion". Here are a few simple tips to integrate your family:

SHALOM'S PICS So I invited some friends over to watch Milk with me. This is a
movie about a gay man who decides to run for a government office in San Francisco.
He keeps losing and losing and finally he wins and becomes
the first gay government official EVER in California.
A lot of
people weren't happy about him or his friends wanting to be in charge
of things and they were very mean and nasty. I think that the best
thing about this movie was the whole "idea" of Harvey Milk. He didn't
just run for office for his own glory or gain - he ran for office to
help a group of people who weren't represented in the government and
didn't have a say in anything. He didn't do it for the money or
because he would be famous. He did it to really help people...he
believed in equality for everyone.
I bet if he could, he would have had a pitbull! Four paws up, a tail wag and a Rottweiler slurpy kiss! Peace out
Shalom

DUMB DOG TOYS by Ann Masters
There are some dog toys-wait, let me put those words in quotes to demonstrate their ineptitude-"dog toys" out there that are just downright dumb.
Some of them are sold. We'll talk about that in the next newsletter. Others, may Oprah have mercy on us, we actually create ourselves. Read full article...

VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH
Like many Dawg Squad volunteers,
Dimitri found us when he was looking to adopt a dog. He fell first for the puppy Bugsy (formerly Ben) and later adopted the super sweet Ayla
(formerly Pinar) to be his companion. Then Dimitri learned of a third
dog needing a new home.
Many of you have read about Lansky, a
Pit Mix who had to get out of Ohio because of breed restrictive
legislation. Dimitri wanted to make sure this wonderful dog didn't
suffer at the hands of discrimination, so he brought him to Los
Angeles.
Unfortunately, while Ayla loves everyone, Bugsy was not
thrilled with the new addition, so Dimitri brought Lansky to the Dawg
Squad's adoption events and set about finding him his OWN perfect home.
While he's at weekly adoptions, Dimitri does not just hang out with
Lansky. He's got a talent for dog training, and helps all the dogs
learn basic obedience skills. (He also occasionally lets them break the
rules and jump up for a kiss or a "hug," but that is a different
story.)
In addition to waking up early and coming out to adoptions each
week, Dimitri is always ready to help with a home check, deliver a dog,
or pitch in at events. He's also currently in school to become a
veterinarian himself! While we're sad to report that, Lansky is STILL looking for his forever home we're so happy we found Dimitri, because
he's a huge asset to the Squad, and to all of our dogs.
