Greetings!
Are you as free as you want to be? Some people regard freedom as a potent brew best doled out in small doses, and only to the right people.
These folks confuse freedom with chaos, so they resist freedom for themselves and others.
Some people dread freedom, believing they'll be left alone Out There.
These folks confuse freedom with abandonment, so they resist freedom for fear of losing Love.
Freedom is really a state of mind.
As Shakespeare's Hamlet noted, "I could be bounded in a nutshell, and count myself a king of infinite space - if it were not that I have bad dreams."
In today's articles, we'll look at some of the bad dreams that keep you from enjoying more freedom in the here and now.
Enjoy! With love and appreciation, Moira PS - Click here to listen to these articles and receive illumination around today's topic. Thank you! |

A is for Addiction
What are you hooked on?

You don't have to be a candidate for Alcoholics Anonymous to be an addict.
Addictions can include emotional and/or physical dependency on:
- Substances, like sugar, alcohol, opiates, or nicotine
- Behaviors, like shopping, eating, gambling, or working
- Feelings, like depression, anger, helplessness, or defeat
Whatever you're hooked on - you are a slave to it. You have all the freedom of a caged tiger.
The need to have more of what you're addicted to gradually eats up your will, energy and time ...
Because you're always fruitlessly trying to re-capture the magic of the first time you tasted what you now can't live without.
That's why an addiction can sneak up on you without your noticing. One day, you realize you can't remember the last time you went for one day without your driving need for that substance, behavior or feeling.
Most addictions come from an inability to imagine anything better for yourself than what your high of choice gives you ...
Or from a hole in your soul that can never be filled by anything in the material world.
Would you like to change that now?

B is for "Being Realistic"
Do you rain on your own parade?
Chances are, you have dreams you wish would come true.
Take a moment to close your eyes now and think about one of them.
"Someday, I'd like to __(fill in the blank)__"
Now, notice the thoughts that come up to tell you why it will never happen. They might sound like:
- "I can never have what I want"
- "My mother/father/husband/wife/kids will never let me do or have that"
- "I'm not lovable/educated/rich enough to do or have that"
- "I have to wait for month/years until that can happen"
- "First I have to do X, then I have to do Y, before I can do that"
- "Because I did this, I can never do that"
It's important to realize these thoughts come from previous experiences, or your parents, or your fear.
They have nothing to do with Reality, which is far greater than anything the human brain can conceive.
Who decided positive thinking = unrealistic fantasy and negative thinking = being realistic?
Negative thinking is actually less realistic than positive thinking because, in a Universe of Infinite Possibilities, you have narrowed your focus (and thus your options) to a few painful possibilities.
You're at a richly abundant banquet, and all your negative thinking lets you see is a few stale slices of baloney.
Would you like to release your addiction to negative thinking now, so you feel free to enjoy what gives you pleasure now, and look forward to more great things to come?

C is for Competition
Are you locked up in "Competition Prison"?
Have you noticed how much misery competitive feelings create in you?
For example:
- You loved your new Toyota, until you saw your neighbor's new BMW
- Your latest raise thrilled you, until you found out your deskmate got a promotion
- Your 10-pound weight loss made you ecstatic, until you saw how hot that gal looked in her miniskirt
Consider this:
Does the BMW, the promotion, or the gal in the miniskirt threaten your well-being?
Do they decrease the value of your accomplishment in any way?
Only in your mind. And you can change that any time.
Holding up a mental yardstick to compare yourself with others not only makes you unhappy ...
Or happy because someone else has fallen short (a dubious and short-lived satisfaction at best) ...
It also keeps you in lockstep with the aspirations and accomplishments of others, instead of focusing on your own.
Are you willing to free yourself now from the self-imposed prison of trying to keep up with the Joneses (or Winfreys or Trumps or Dalai Lamas) ...
And soar to wherever your soul calls you?
