Helping your homebound neighbors by volunteering with us is easy!

The average delivery can be completed during the lunch hour, and we have opportunities available throughout Oahu, during the weekday or on Saturday.  You can volunteer once a week or as a team and take turns delivering meals to seniors!

Currently, more than 50 volunteers are urgently needed to help package or deliver meals throughout Oahu.

Volunteers are also needed to join our March for Meals and more! on March 12th to help raise awareness of the escalated need for services in these challenging economic times.

To help or learn more, contact Eric at 531-0555 or ebatalon@lanakilapacific.org, or visit us online at www.lanakilapacific.org.

Thank You for Helping to Continue Services!

 Senior receiving meal

Thanks to the amazing
generosity from the community, Lanakila Meals on Wheels' Adopt-A-Senior campaign reached its goal to raise $150,000.

This ensured that meal services could be continued for homebound seniors in the program, through our fiscal year ending June 30, 2009.

Over 600 individuals, organizations, and businesses came together and saved the day.

On behalf of all of us here and the seniors we serve, thank you.

While the support has been tremendous, more than 100 seniors are still on the waiting list for a meal and we receive new calls everyday from seniors in need, making it important for us to continue fundraising efforts.  If you haven't had an opportunity to give, your tax deductible gift can help us to deliver nourishment, comfort and independence to seniors in need.

A few thoughts for our Voyage of Growth...

"We are all inventors, each sailing out on a voyage of discovery, guided each by a private chart, of which there is no duplicate. The world is all gates, all opportunities."
-- Ralph Waldo Emerson

"How far you go in your life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in your life you will have been all of these."
-- George Washington Carver

"The great thing in the world is not so much where we stand, as in what direction we are moving."
-- Oliver Wendell Holmes

Greetings!

This year marks Lanakila Pacific's 70th year of service.  Who would have guessed that the efforts of one young local woman, helping eleven people with challenged lives, would grow into an organization serving over 4,000 people every year.  It is a dream made possible because of you and the many who have shared their energy - time, knowledge, resources and aloha.

70 years is quite a milestone, one that has given us a renewed sense of purpose, a desire to honor our roots, a reason to grow in sustainable ways, and of course, an occasion to celebrate!

We invite you to be a part of our voyage of growth, and renewed commitment to our mission and vision, and hope you will join us in making 2009 be more than just about change.  Let's make this a year about honoring and sharing, about growing together and celebrating what we love best about our community.

image of program participant showing a plant that they grewWe are excited to announce a series of events that promise to engage you and our entire community, throughout the year. March brings what will be our largest March for Meals rally. In July, we'll hold our first ever Papio Fishing Tournament in historic Kaneohe Bay, followed by our 14th Annual Golf Tournament in August, which promises to be the most entertaining yet.  And in October, we will stage an unprecedented dining event that will take sharing a meal to another level.

For our 70th, we will also launch a food-growing project and an online community to foster sharing and collaboration.

A lot of exciting things are happening here this year.  A lot more to come so follow us on Twitter or join our email list to be kept up to date.  Stay tuned!

Lt. Dan Visits our Hickam Team

photo of Gary Sinise and Leila KakazuOn Friday, January 30th, Lt. Dan AKA Gary Sinise stopped by to say hello to our Hickam Food Service crew, prior to his concert the next day with the Lt. Dan Band.   It was a special day for our hardworking crew who operates the Hale Aina Dining Facility as part of our food service training and employment program for people with disabilities.

Leila Kakazu, the Mess Attendant who takes care of cleaning the entire dining area, immediately recognized him as the guy on CSI and the movie, Forest Gump, and she had her camera ready. As you can see, she was very excited to take pictures with him.  She said, "I'm happy to meet a great movie star like him. He was very kind and very friendly."
