Adopt-A-Senior:
We're almost there!

Thanks to the amazing generosity from the community, Lanakila Meals on Wheels' Adopt-A-Senior campaign is now in the homestretch.
As of December 15th, more than 500 individuals, organizations and businesses have helped raise $142,745 to ensure that meal services are continued for homebound seniors in the program.
Reaching our goal of $150,000 will ensure that services can be continued through our fiscal year ending June 30, 2009, and there are many seniors on the waiting list who would benefit from additional support.
If you haven't had an opportunity to give, your tax deductible gift can help us reach this goal to deliver nourishment, comfort and indpendence to seniors in need.
To donate, please click the link below. For more information, contact Marlena at 531-0555 or mwillette@lanakilapacific.org, or visit www.lanakilamow.org.
Mahalo from the bottom of our hearts!

More Than 800 Homebound Seniors Received Thanksgiving Meals and more!
A huge Mahalo goes out to the army of more than 275 volunteers who helped deliver hot Thanksgiving meals to more than 800 very appreciative seniors that day, with the generous support of donations from the community.
For the first time, this year, the seniors also received "Kupuna Care Packages," which included donated household items such as paper towels, soap and Kleenex to help provide some financial relief, as well as Thanksgiving greetings made by elementary and high school students to brighten the holiday.
Special Mahalo to KGMB, KHNL, KHON, KITV, the Honolulu Advertiser & Star Bulletin for covering the special delivery. To see their stories, click here. |

First Annual "Kupuna Care Package" Drive was an overwhelming success
As you can see in the below photos, Lanakila Meals on Wheels received tremendous support for our first annual "Kupuna Care Package" drive. Our goal was to deliver care packages to 800 seniors on Christmas Day. As a result of the overwhelming support we received, we were able to deliver a care package to every senior on Thanksgiving Day as well! |
|
Our warmest mahalo to everyone who pitched in to bring these holiday gifts to the seniors!
Special Mahalos to...
...the students and staff at Holy Family Academy Catholic Academy for donating a mountain of household items and Christmas trees, as well as more than $1,000 from their campus-wide coin drive to make "change" for our seniors...

...Island Insurance Companies for donating a vanload full of items, as well as monetary contributions from their company-wide effort, and for being "Always Here to Help"...
...Hawaiian Electric Company for donating 800 bags to help volunteers carry the items to the seniors...
...and, the team of elves from Bank of Hawaii who volunteered to help package the items for the seniors! |

Leading in Tough Times
for volunteering to provide a
fun-filled, highly engaging workshop for Lanakila Pacific, Partners in Development and St. Francis Health Care System, including critical lessons on what leaders do in times of "hot water."
One of the key lessons we learned was to "Flip It!" and know your choices. You can become a carrot that becomes mushy in hot water and grumble and complain, an egg that becomes hard in hot water, angry and abusive, or you can make tea and turn negatives into positives. We learned that, "people are like tea bags, you don't know how strong they are until you put them in hot water." Adapted from a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt. Our warmest mahalo to Leadership Works for taking the time help us lead during these times of uncertainty, and for all of their support over the years! |

Saltimbanco Shines at Lanakila Pacific
On November 6th, a group of about 125 participants in Lanakila TLC (Teaching & Learning Centers) as well as seniors from Lanakila Meals on Wheels witnessed a magical mini performance of Cirque Du Soleil's signature show, Saltimbanco. Their performance at Lanakila Pacific inspired all who were present to "keep a beat" by clapping their hands, while two songs were performed by the costume clad ladies, who were then followed by a "drumming session" by an Argentinean drummer. Their performance concluded with an acrobatic clown, who wowed the crowd. As a token of appreciation, our very own Hands in Harmony group, which consists of 12 Lanakila TLC program participants, performed a song for the visiting cast members using sign language. All-in-all, a grand time was had by all!
A special mahalo goes out to Mei Jeanne Wagner and Laird Christianson Advertising, as well as Circue Du Soleil for arranging the special visit!
