Lanakila Meals on Wheels Kicks Off Adopt-A-Senior Fund Drive

Our annual Adopt-A-Senior Drive was kicked off September 1st with the Foodland Give Aloha Campaign.
Our goal is to raise nearly $100,000 by December to maintain the current level of service, including our special holiday deliveries to homebound seniors.
During this critical economic time with rising fuel and food costs, giving now is more important than ever.
This is so important that ABC Stores has stepped up to match donations dollar-for-dollar up to $5,000 during the month of September.
Please give a gift today and take advantage of this opportunity to double your impact.
Donations can also be made at any Foodland or Sack N Save checkout through September 30, 3008 (up to $249 per person). Give them the Lanakila Give Aloha Code: 77091 and Foodland and Western Union will match all donations up to a total of $300,000 for all organizations combined.

Lanakila: More Than Crafts
What do you think of when you hear Lanakila Rehabilitation Center? Most people think of Lanakila Crafts, lauhala baskets, Christmas ornaments, pillows - all at bargain prices. But Lanakila has always been much more than crafts. The organization has provided training and employment services for individuals with disabilities for more than 69 years. We also offer a wide range of social enterprises, staffed by those we serve, to provide services to the community that help us in moving toward financial self-sufficiency. Lanakila Encourages Voter Education
To help encourage participation in the election process, Lanakila Pacific welcomes candidates from all parties to share their vision and views with program participants in a non-partisan manner. Most recently, Board of Education candidates Janis Akuna and Carol Mon Lee visited Lanakila Teaching and Learning Centers (TLC) and answered questions such as their views on special education. It was an excellent opportunity for participants to exercise their voice, and to encourage inclusion of people with disabilities in the process. To learn more about education opportunities at Lanakila Pacific, please feel free to contact our community relations office at 531-0555 or cr@lanakilapacific.org. ** Remember to register to vote by Monday, October 6, 2008 for the General Election. Fast, Friendly and Always with a Smile, that's Delivery You Can BANK on!
On Saturday, September 20th, employees of the Central Pacific Bank Beretania Branch provided much more than excellent customer service when they participated in Lanakila Meals on Wheels' weekend delivery of meals to homebound seniors.
Part of a growing trend nation-wide of businesses encouraging community service work by employees, CPB Beretania is the first business to partner with Lanakila Meals on Wheels for weekend deliveries. This energetic and well-dressed team delivered more than 35 meals to homebound seniors in the downtown area. CPB Branch Manager and regular home delivery volunteer, Dean Yoshida wanted his employees to do more service work in the community. Since Dean volunteers regularly, the choice to expose his team to the needs of our seniors was an easy one. A big mahalo goes out to CPB for all their support throughout the year! Way to go CPB!
For more information on business and group volunteer opportunities, please contact Eric Batalon, Volunteer Coordinator at 356-8532 or ebatalon@lanakilapacific.org. |
